Lets Talk Luggage Racks

Hi All,
I have been on a chrome binge lately. Saddlebag side rails are on. Top rails are in the mail. Now I am sorta thinking about a luggage rack for my bike. I see the Cobra and the Kawasaki. I read from one of the sites that the Cobra sits lower and I see that the price is better.

Is there anything about about the OEM that makes it worth the extra money?

Which one to you prefer and why?

Thanks,
SuperDuty

Mine's the fire & steel Kawasaki. The driver backrest is adjustable and my wife says the passenger is very comfortable. If the rear backrest was any lower my t-bag would have trouble getting all the straps around it. (my bike is a 1500 not sure how different the 1600 is)

I don't like the look of the fire and steel one. It sits too high and aesthetically just doesn't look well designed to me.

I bought the Fire & Steel and don't like it either sits to high and the welding is very sub standard I sold it to a mate and had another mate build one for me and had it chromed much better looking rack and the welding is perfect.

1. No
2. Cobra, it's cheaper, looks better, provides lower center of gravity for the load.

Good to see Aussies on here. I have a mate who lives in Melbourne as well. You are now just getting into your riding season down there now. Keep the shiny side up!

I too opted for the Cobra...mostly for the price, but it does sit lower as people have pointed out, allowing for taller T-bags.

I almost bought the OEM rack in May when I bought my Nomad, but luckily I happened upon a web page that had a pictures of the OEM and Cobra racks right next to each other. There was a comment on the page about how the OEM rack was so high. I'm glad I saw that, and it made me change my mind and I ended up buying the Cobra rack. I've been very happy with it. My Tahoe bag mounts easily on it; plus the price was much cheaper!
