Summer gloves - your thoughts?
I'd like to find a nice pair of summer weight vented gloves, and just wondered what brand/style/type y'all prefer? We're talking 80 degree and above sunshine blazing kind of riding. Fingerless (do you get smacked with rocks and bugs) vs. full finger... leather vs. fabric... that kind of stuff. Thanks!

I have several pair that I just bought at the local shop. I have a fingerless pair and yes you still feel bugs on your fingers. I wear leather but synthetic fibers would give more venting. I have a friend that swears by mechanix gloves for riding. Never tried them though.

I wear fingerless weight lifting gloves I bought at a sporting goods store (Academy).
They have leather palms and some kind of material on the back that vents well. On rare occasions I catch a bug on the fingers, but not often. Rain drops find the fingers the most. |

Just go to a sporting goods store and buy a set of baseball batting gloves. They come in all colors (including black) and work great for lightweight summer gloves. They breath well, fit perfect and have a superior grip. That's what I use all summer long !

That's a good idea.. never thought of the batting gloves..
I have the fingerless leather ones and love them, but I've gotten hit twice with bugs that went right up the finger hole and got squished in there. Trust me when I say there's nothing that'll gross you out more on a bike than having a finger on your throttle hand covered in bug goo, unable to get it out without letting go of the throttle or stopping. That happened twice on my last ride.. YUK!

Icon Tarmac gloves. Vented back with armor and leather palms and bottom of fingers. $34 but my hands are worth it.

These are what I use most of the time. I can use them with a liner under them down to about 32°F. The spandex back breathes well and the deerskin is comfortable and provides more protection than the lighter goatskin. Comes in black and dark blue. Cost is less than $20.

Glad you liked them! I was thinking that they could probably pass for your summer AND winter gloves down in your neighborhood. What does it drop down to in December....60ish? Sheesh..... !

I use most of the above mentioned gloves as well as mechanics gloves also. They all work well on the right conditions. With our weather now I ride to work dressed rather light since it around 70 in the sun, but at night it in the 30's here so I wear warmer gloves and my snowmobile pants for the ride home. I'll carry about four different types of gloves until our weather stabilizes here.

That sounds like riding in the NW! I ALWAYS have four pairs of gloves on board. The heavy winter, moderate deerskins, light batting gloves and Seal Skinz waterproof. Don't leave home without'em.... ::)!

I bought the TourMaster Summer Elite gloves. They are very comfortable, but high quality leather. So, they protect your hands well (i.e. Not ripping open if you fall), but are cool and comfortable.
