driver backrest
Guys and Gals,
I recently added a drivers backrest from Grasshopper, got the chance to try it out last night first ride of the year, we still have snow, but it was 48 degrees. Anyway, I love it !!!! I have read a thread where someone had the bolt that holds the bracket down strip out. Tonight I modified the bracket a bit so it is held down with the bolts that hold the back seat bracket. I think it will make it a little stronger. See the picture. Still waiting for the rest of the snow to melt. Terbear Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Info
LW asked for more detail on building it. Simple really, I just bent the 2 pieces of metal to match the exixting bracket. The I bent a little bit of a curve in the part that goes back to the other bolts. The metal I used was thicker than the original bracket, just something I had laying around. Put it all in a vice, and welded the underside. I would show you, but my welding looks a lot like dog sh--. Drill the holes for the back bolts, thats it. I did put some longer bolts in the back 2 holes. Terbear |

In the end, my wife found it hard to get on and off with the backrest not hinging, so I bought a CWI. Your bracket looks better than mine, mines more amateurish, but used the same holes. If I could get one just like yours, and find a way for my CWI hinge system to weld to it, that would look a hell of a lot better than the brackets that a CWI has going down to the shock mounts. |
