I was looking at some other bikes recently put havn't pulled the trigger. I may just keep my bike as Ive been ordering the parts I need to fix it. Whether I fix it and ride it this summer or replace it in the near future depends on what comes along. I looked at a couple Nomads since a lot of my trim would transfer over to it. It also depends on my budget as well.

Do you want to stick with Kaw or are you looking at other things too? If you fix the old bike, make sure the frame is right. It took quite a tumble. So did you. How is your arm?

Nope, I didn't pull the trigger yet either. I may have to refigure my finances after really looking into it. I will still add a fairing, just not sure when. It was fun to get excited about though.

Thanks Caddy for getting me re-interested in the fairing project. I'll still follow your project and give some inputs and ask questions though. :-)

The arm is pretty good, it doesn't have quite the same flexibility in the wrist as it used to but it works. As far as the bikes go Ive been looking at a couple Nomads, and some Ultras. Id like an Ultra but they cost a lot more, if I do get one Im looking at no older than an 09. Ive replaced most of the parts on my bike but still need a crashbar, and a fairing and beerbox. Then the gauges and stereo for it as well.
The frame seems good, one fork is binding a bit and may need replacing if I cant fix the inner cartridge.

An outer fairing just sold for $131.00 and an inner for $26.00 I would have bid but the seller didn't want to ship to Canada unless I gave him positive feedback before he shipped it.And wouldn't quote a shipping price until the auction was over. I passed on it. But it does look like there are some bargains out there if you choose carefully.

If I was in the market for a HD touring bike, it would have to be 2009 and newer due to the new frame. What I find interesting is that HD dealers near me sell used Ultra's for as much or nearly so as the list price on new ones and these bikes are 1-3 years old, like this one: http://www.bigbarnhd.com/bikes_detai...ntory_key=1100. I can't see paying that for a used bike.

Thats why Im would get an 09 or 10, Ive seen quite a few low mile bikes in the 17-19k price range, that one is priced a bit high.
I was at our local HD dealer this week and a new 2012 lists at 29,100 Cdn here.

Sounds like you need a friend in Buffalo.

When I looked at them when I was looking at bikes 15 months ago, they were 21999 new and were two tone, not black. I have to wonder how serious they are about selling it. I wonder why they are so expensive in Canada? The list is lower in the US, even if the exchange rate is about even.

I have no idea why they are so much more here, our dollar is within about 3% lately. Whatever I decide on, it will most likely be south of the border.

No problem mobandy, I look forward to your inputs and questions. It could be 4/6 weeks before I have all the parts assembled as they are all coming over in a container that might not even leave Minneapolis for a few weeks yet. Then the fairings and lowers have to get paint, then I have to secure the gauges and stereo etc.
Looks like this thread is far from finished!

You could get your gauges now and get them prewired, so it speeds up the installation. The oil pressure and water temp are the two gauges that take a lot more time to install with their sending units.

Just went through the ebay search for some more fairings... Seems like that last little stretch the last couple of days had the best options. I have a few on my watch list, but not as many as last time.

I guess I'll keep an eye out over time. So what did you guys search for when looking? I've been searching for "harley fairing", Ultra fairing", & "harley davidson fairing"... come up with all kinds of matches and then have to just scroll through the pages to see what comes up.

You never know, the wife may convince me to just go with a new Reckless Fairing whenever I decide to pull the trigger and get one. I guess I couldn't complain about that, even though it's more money.

I didn't think I could do anything with the gauges until I had the fairing on the bike. Will I have to buy those oil & temp sending units seperately or do they come with most new or secondhand gauges?
