One of the things I was thinking about was where someone drinks to much, gets drunk and kills someone.

I don't know what's different. Because he decided not to take his meds? Isn't the drunk out of control, or not himself? I don't think a drunk has it in his mind to go out and commit vehicular homicide.

This guy 'decided he was fine, and went off his meds and took a gun which was illegal for him since he was a mental paitient, and shot a 14 year year old girl thru the head. If he is mentally ill then he needs to be in a hospital. If he is well he needs to be in prison serving time for murder.

The point is he is a murderer, and needs to take responcibility for it. Not out walking around leering at women in the street, thinking he and them are the porn stars in his own mind.

That's my feeling. Many people are literally not themselves when they commit crimes. But I believe in do the crime....do the time. Everyone seems to come up with excuses for committing an injustice to others. What ever happened to being held accountable for your actions.

Let the small time pot heads go and put the real criminal in jail and keep them there without parole.

Actually what is parole. Letting someone out early for a crime they committed because they were good in jail. That sounds about right ......I've been reformed. Whooya.

In all honesty I believe there should be some kind of reward for not starting trouble in prison but to what extent? Don't let someone out early because of space and money issues for keeping him in jail.

It is very interesting to me that in the Old Testament, God made no provision for prisons. The crimes broke down into two categories: Capital, and Personal. Capital crimes were dealt with in a clear, concise, and permanent way: Death. Violent crimes, for the most part, were in this category. The other category, Personal, required a repayment of whatever you took from someone else (including your eye or hand, etc) , and with interest in the case of theft or fraud. No need for prisons. No overcrowding, parole, or need for early release.

This is one of those difference of opinions that will probably never be resolved. Those that wish to take our means to defend ourselves don't seem to be able to make the common sense connection, that criminals don't care about laws and that when they do not know who is or isn't armed, it will, in most cases, give them pause. Even if firearms were completely banned and destroyed, criminals would simply find another tool with which to harm others. I grew up with guns and view them simply as a tool. They were used to feed us , defend us and for recreation, as I have spent many a cartridge on tin cans and other such targets, with my father and friends. Violence is not the result of the tool, but of the person. Set a loaded gun on the table and sit there and watch it for an hour or a day, did it go off yet? Has it killed anyone yet? As several others have stated, shall we next ban hammers or baseball bats or any number of tools so common in daily life that have been used to kill. I can kill with a sharpened pencil, shall we ban them? As a CCW holder I hope I never have to use my weapon, but the same hope also covers the fire extinguisher at my house. It comes down to this for me...I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
