Reckless fairing (more pics 05/23)

These all look great fellas. I have thought about a fairing...but don't want to change handlebars and most, if not all, of the fairings I have seen won't work with the Phat II risers.... ::). Those Phat II's make ALL the difference in riding comfort for me, much more so than any fairing install could...so for now....I guess I'll do without one.... :-/. If I found one that would bolt right on and work with my Phat II's and CWI lights....I'd be interested for sure.

Reckless fairing (more pics 05/23)

I just got back from dropping my fairing off at the paint shop. It should be ready by Thursday afternoon.

The Premeux fairing should work as you describe. I have risers with stock handlebars and everything fits just fine.

Hey is Kris's comments that the reckless fairing won't fit with Phat II risers? Or, it won't fit with a stereo in place? Good thing I read his comments because I've been thinking of a fairing.

If you look at the picture below, you can see this bump-out nearly overhangs the stock risers:

Ive been following this thread as I would like to add a fairing to Lucille in the near future. Good job gentlemen, you should be proud of the work you've done. The clearance issue is important to me as well, since the 3" chuckster's risers I have are absolutely needed to make riding comfortable for me. Hmmmmm. . .

I pre- fitted my Reckless with radio installed and the head unit clears the PhatII's but not by very much. Maybe 1/2". I have a single-din unit which has a cutout of approximately 2"x7". I noticed some cutouts are larger, probably due to the head unit supplied by Reckless. As you may know there are several threads on the forum about the Reckless and one writer stated his cutout was larger than the 2x7 mine is. I don't think I'll be able to install a marine cover though.

That is the problem it is the splash guard that hits the phatt 11 risers some have cut grooves in the splash guard I just changed handle bars, at first all the reckless had a large cut out for the splash guard now they will make the cut the way you want it.

LW you can check mine out in Eureka Springs

You might look into some of the remote mount unit like this one the guts can be mounted inside the fairing and the tuning face anywhere else like maybe the area above the radio cutout area below the windshield the faceplate is fully waterproof so no cover needed

Jim,

I suppose swapping out bars is a pretty simple job, as long as you don't go too far and have to swap out cables and extend wiring, right? I am giving that some serious thought.

To all: My fairing arrived with a 2"x7" radio cutout, which was great except I was expecting something larger. Be warned that due to the shape of the outer shell, the higher up in the inner fairing you locate the stereo, the less depth you have to work with. I know someone mentioned ordering a fairing without the radio hole and cutting one higher in the panel. Do your homework beforehand, or you could end up with a real problem.

CJ it was no problem I just had to reroute the front brake hose but any thing taller and I would have had to change some stuff. The bars I have are 1 1/4" X 14" ape hangers when I ordered them they were listed as 13" but when I got them it said 14" on the package and measured 14" from the bottom.

As the two left handed idiot in the forum, allow me to venture a question. I really like the Reckless Fairing, but with the 5 in windscreen, is that as tall as the stock windscreen? If not, are there alternatives? As an old fart, I really like the wind protection.

I don't know if the 5" is, but the 8" seems taller than my stock windshield, which I had adjusted about 2/3 of the way up.
