TFI Settings for 1500/1600 Nomad

So, what you're saying is, when this is done, everyone will know that purple is the fastest color? It's alright, go ahead, say it. You'll feel better.

TFI Settings for 1500/1600 Nomad

Hi All,
I joined the TFI club this afternoon as well. A buddy helped me with the install and I only got a short ride in before dark. I have to echo what the others said - WOW - it's a whole new bike. Throttle response is super as well.

I've had the V&H Baggers only since early November. With the stock air intake and fuel, the bike was really down in power. I installed a right-side Caddman intake along with the TFI today.

I set it to the recommended settings to start and put it back to together quick so I could take a spin. I haven't had time to tune it at all yet, but I am already very pleased. It pulls like crazy, and no pinging whatsoever, but it was only 35 degrees out too. The temp is going to plunge into the single digits now over the next few days, so the bike will be parked for awhile. But I have thoughts of many happy upcoming spring rides to keep me warm. :)

TFI Settings for 1500/1600 Nomad

Hi guys, new to the forum but my husband and I have been riding Nomads for a few years now; his is an '01, mine an '03. We have baggers, have removed the reeds and covered the holes, removed all of the pollution control crap, and open air kit with a cone K&N filter. All of the mods have been done by us, including manufacturing the air kit. We ran the Nads for over 6000 miles with no fuel management system and they ran great. On the advice of a few people, that were freaking out about us holing our engines, we each installed a TFI; worst mistake I made. We have rode pretty much in all weather extremes from a sleet storm at 0 degrees in the Canadian Rockies, 98% humidity and 110 above in North Carolina, to 120 above in the dry desert heat of Nevada. My husbands Nad runs fine, but his TFI is pretty much on the lowest settings. My Ruby would not idle, and seemed to have less power. I turned my TFI off and my Ruby runs better than she ever did. I am constantly doing research on this fuel management thing and have talked to a couple of guys that have rode Kawasaki's for years and are now into modifying, building, and racing cycles. They have told me the fuel management thing is a waste of money in this area, Southern Alberta, since our Nads are set rich from the factory because of the altitude. I'm of the opinion now that each Nomad runs different, in each part of the country, and either need fuel management or you don't, it's not a must. I happy with going the speed limit with enough power to go up steep hills and run smooth on the open road.

I think your thinking is correct cyclecat. the USA Nomad's are set very lean, I assume CA are different. I added a TFI recently because I needed it badly. It pinged on any grade of gas. Surged at slow steady speeds. And 2 up riding produced alot of pinging unless you went slow and gained speed gradually. Now all that has corrected. It runs like a bat, never pings, runs cooler, etc. I love mine. Good post.

One needs to know how their Nomad is running before putting on a fuel management system. I wouldn't have put one on if my Nomad never pinged or ran hot. It did both so the evidence was there for a fuel enhancment processor.

I agree CC.......I ran mine for a little over a year (in the NC humidity and heat) with baggers and open intake with no processor and it ran fine. Mine never pinged either stock or after those mods. It ran lean but not drastically. I finally threw a resistor in the air temp sensor and did a minor tps adjustment and ran for 6-8 months more I guess and it worked fine...just richened up a bit.

I added the TFI for a bit more performance myself so everyone needs to evaluate their own machine and decide if they need it for whatever they are looking for....all of these beasts are set up just a little different and seem to have their own personality......

Ruby has never pinged and we run with heavy engine guard covers on no matter what the weather and have had no overheating problems either. I really do not need any more power than she produces right now so the TFI was a waste of money for me.

I haven't actually removed it off Ruby yet. We hard wired them in so we have to wait for a bit warmer weather to work on the Nads. I can't remember what I paid for the TFI; what are they selling for now?
