I live in Minnesota and put on about 20,000 miles every year, so I have traveled just about every road in MN. The North Shore is a beautiful ride but it is NOT very challenging. The only challenging roads are along the St. Croix river(which is a Mississippi tributary) and the Mississippi River. Yes, there may be a few exceptions but for the most part MN offers very few rides of any length that are a challenge to an experienced rider. 90% of my riding is in the Great River valley. I have also been to the U.P. on numerous occasions and although very scenic it is also not very challenging. That is my two cents worth. What ever the location for the Rally, I will be attending.
P.S. I just returned from a trip to Deadwood. For those that have never been there, the Black Hills offer fantastic riding.

I tend to agree with usranger74. I enjoy a scenic ride as much as a challenging ride. Good roads are as important as anything for me.

Just throwing this out there
Just got back from the UP and found that it was "nice" but nothing of a challenge. I like an easy ride too, but sometimes a "leaner corner" makes it fun too. I'm kind of shy about dragging the boards right now, as you can imagine.
I saw a lot of bikes on the Upper Peninsula this week. From where I live, it was a 1500 mile round trip. If we had a point to point NCR next year, I wonder if following the Mississippi River south from it's headwaters at Itasca to maybe Keokuk, IA would be an interesting trip. Just thinking...... keep the ideas coming please!

Just throwing this out there
I worked most of the day on the Drifter, changing the solo seat to the stock seat with sissy bar, leather bags, and rear rack. I'm leaving for Spearfish, ND on Wednesday morning and the solo configuration just doesn't even let you take a change of underwear, unless you wear them all at the same time. (we didn't need that picture, did we?)
I took the Drifter out on the road to make sure nothing would fall off on my upcoming trip. I began using the hand shift too. It's a kick! You have to use your left hand to work the clutch while your right hand jockeys back and forth between the stick shift and the throttle. You have to let go of the throttle in order to make the shift, then grab the throttle again to take off down the road. There are no speed shifts, but a complete pause between gears. I kind of like it! I got good news on my Nomad today. It won't be salvaged! But still may be another month until it is fixed and I get it back. That it won't be salvaged is good news indeed!!
