One thing I did notice on the way up to Custer, in upper elevations and cooler temperatures, I couldn't make it ping riding 2 up and pulling the trailer. I even lugged it a few times trying to make it ping and couldn't. Elevation and ambient temperature have a whole lot to do with how your bike performs. Down here in mid summer, without richening up the fuel/air mixture it's gonna ping on any fuel grade. No way around it. The TFI was definitely a very good investment.
Same thing here, Mitch. The area I live in is about 1200' above sea level, on average. I almost can't keep it from pinging 4-5 months of the year, but if I get out of the valley, up to the 3000' elevation and above I can't make it ping if I try to. In fact, the bike runs really good above 4000'.

I noticed my Nomad would run on CoolAid in Custer. Different story hear. I can get by on 87 most of the time unless its over 90 degrees in slow traffic. 89 usually stops any pinging at any temperature..

I found in higher elevation I had to adjust my idle and tire pressure. Didn't think about the air pressure until I stopped to get new rain gear at a shop as mine finally split at the seams in the crotch area. I guess I can't complain about the rain gear I had. I know I had the raingear since at least '77.

I think you probably got your money's worth out of the raingear!
