That day in 2000 that I crashed, two young guys that were with us told me later they bought leathers when they saw how mine protected me. So talking about these things can be helpful.

One thing no-one here has mentioned is insects.
I take it the guys who ride with shorts have never had a bee or a wasp up your pants leg on the freeway. oh BTW : 3/4 helmet 100% of the time jeans 100% of the time (occasionally throw some chaps on in winter) jacket 100% of the time ( leather in winter, armoured mesh in summer) gloves 100 % of the time ( half finger in summer, armoured full finger in winter) riding boots 100 % of the time Oh & a rain suit in a saddle bag just for in case. |

Ive already replaced the jacket, but I will still need to pick up a new helmet and gloves. I'll check out the bike show at the end of March.

I had bees fly into my Scorpion EXO 100 1/2 a couple times. It hasn't happened on my FF or 3/4 yet.
It is not the sting that is the bad part. It is the panic to get stopped while trying to get the darn thing out of the helmet. |

Yes bugs do hurt, and getting stung is a bonus not wanted. I had a bug hit my helmet so hard once it actually knocked my head back slightly. And the noise wa like a gun going off.

You got that right, years ago I had a big bumble bee stuck in the side of my helmet buzzing around next to my ear.

I think I'll take a look at the Nolan helmets, they sound pretty good according to you fellas.

Steve, I have owned a lot of helmets, and have I got to say this n43 is the most comfortable one I have ever worn. I bought it in Asheville when we stopped for lunch at the dealers. His price was better "tax in" than my local dealer's cost price here in Montreal.

That's great news Norm, I'll take a close look at one at the show. I liked my old Simpson helmet but it would fell heavy after a while. It seems the newer helmets are a lot lighter.

I tried on a new Shoei at the shop the other day. Man, it was like wearing one of my ball caps. Gotta save up some cash to get one. With my big mellon head, the only helmets that fit well are the expensive ones like Shoei and Arai.
