You know, when you switch from Kawasaki, something gets lost in translation.

Greg has hosted at least two regionals along the Mississippi River corridor. It's time we share the load and not only plan the rally, but plan on traveling to another location. Personally, I'd like to have a rally around the Great Lakes area and over to the west in northern Minnesota. I like looking at large expansesof water, lighthouses and boats. The food is usually good and regional too. Also romantic if you are so inclined. So, I'm going to take a long look in that direction.

I'm traveling to northern Michigan on Monday to go pick up a bike that I have been considering for awhile. My Nomad is still in the shop and I feel lost without a bike.... Also, I am planning on riding to Spearfish, SD in two weeks to meet up with some friends I used to ride with in the northwest U.S.

A friend of mine brags about what he calls the north shore in Minnesota. That said, what bike are you trying out?

What bike? It's a secret until I get it home. No big surprise though.

I was thinking of a rally that went from point to point instead of always leaving from a base motel. It would provide a sense of adventure as well as a change of scenery. Yes,we would have to pack up and travel with all our stuff each day but we would also learn to be better organized. And we would most likely have trailers that we can share. I'd like to hear your comments.

Ponch - You should come with us on this one.

I will. I couldn't go to MV because of a family vacation. I would have preferred the east coast trip because of distance, but it is what it is.

I like the idea of a point-to-point-to-point rally.

Point to point is great idea... something that I have been thinking about myself.

Dave, you could consider a trip around Lake Superior or Lake Michigan.

If you really want to have a longer rally... the trip completely around Lake Superior is one on many rider's "bucket-list of rides". You'll get to see plenty of water then!! I have been on most of those roads. Most are not too hilly or twisty; but if you like seeing water, light-houses, quaint small lake-towns, and the such... that is the tour you'll want to do someday.

Another trip would be to go north along the Mississippi up to the lake and then follow the lake-shore in Wisconsin up and into the U.P. of Michigan (going all the way to Copper Harbor) and then back down along Lake Michigan to Green Bay, and if time allowed you can swing up and into Door County -- then on down to just before Milwaukee. Another great trip also.

I hope you don't mind me throwing-out a few thoughts for you to chew-on. ;)

BNG- you can count us in on that type of rally. As my wife & I always say "Have bags will travel". Keep us in mind when you make plans.

Going around Lake Superior means Canada. It also means a passport and a clean record.

I would think that the day rides would not be to long or taxing. Time in the AM to eat and coffee and time in the PM to socialize and relax. That is, there is more to a rally that just riding - I think.

You must not have ever hung around BMW rallies then! Those guys are nuts for riding until you bleed. ;) No offense Ponch

You have a point --however still... much of what I mentioned can accommodate what you are saying. All of those routes are not difficult to cover a lot of ground.

Having said that... it was once said to me... once you see the trees and water... you've seen all the trees and water because it will all look the same; so if I were you I would find a pleasant spot near some trees and the water that you like and just stay there to enjoy it while you can. ;)

The BMW MOA rally has 8-10000 people. They have a beer tent for god's sake. Yes they like to ride. Look up Voni Galves or Paul Mihalka. Million+ mile riders. One year Voni must have averaged about 1500 miles a week. Might be more. She's a machine.

Even considering all that our northern friends can offer, I'd want to stay in America for the regional ride. Passports cost $110.00 each, take time and effort to get, and how many times do you really use them? Also, we'd want to keep our time limited to no more than three days in conjunction with a weekend so more riders can participate. We have to consider the time spent getting to the rally too.

I appreciate and consider all ideas so keep them coming. We won't totally please everybody but we'll still have a good time. BnG
