Trailer lights

Nice pics.... sorry I forget how much thinner I am than most guys. I am the original stickman

I wired in small run brake lights from the box and found it easy to reach, but I don't have a trailer hitch installed yet. I have one to get installed and a hoppy, which I bought used off one of you mugs last year.

Still I hope you cleaned the box, found the drain, and cleaned it and or drilled it. I bet it was clogged solid with sands.

I like heat shrink too, and there is a wiring knot called diamond. You can cut wire, slip on the tubing, add a wire , tie the knot, flux the wire and solder, then slide the tubing and shrink it.

Having built my own trailer and engineered the wiring for it a couple of years ago, if I were to do it over again, I'd mount the Hoppy in/on the trailer and just run a detachable wiring harness from the bike to the trailer.

Tap into the taillight wiring harness under the seat in the battery compartment. Make a short harness with however many leads you need, and locate the plug behind the right side cover. Make another wiring harness to connect to that plug and route it to the trailer hitch.

I agree that would be a good way to do it.
But I put some mini tombstones on the bags and removed the factory turn signals.
The bag lights are now run/brake/turn and I put a 5" LED run/brake where the stock turn signals mounted.
So in my case putting the Hoppy on the trailer wasn't an option.

I usually over do stuff, like I use two different size pieces of shrink tubing. Yeah, I know it's probably over kill, but makes me feel better. Usually because where you loop the wires, you'll get some sharp points, so I'll put a closer fitting shrink wrap on and pull it over the splice then a bigger one that goes over the first shrink wrap, but smaller. Heat them both up and don't have to worry so much about a piece of wire chaffing through where the splice is and shorting anything out. At least that's what I tell myself.........

Someone riddle me this. When I was doing the wiring, under the seat by where the back lights couple up, was this other funky looking coupler, see pic below. Does anyone know what it is / for? Never seen anything like it.

I believe that's for diagnostic use.

That's how I did things when I wired the fairing on the Nomad.

I'd describe it more like me, with no ability to swim, diving into churning waters of asinine decisions, turmoil, and tumult.

CJ is always there at the ready to happily toss his life line of knowledge, to save me yet again.

Spank me if I'm wrong!
