I recommend you join the AMA. For ~$45 (I think) per year, one tow more than pays for itself. Plus, the AMA is a lobbyist group that fights for the rights of riders. If you ride, you should support them.

The first level of AAA doesn't cover bikes but the next 2 levels do. I think the one I have will tow your bike up to 150 miles.

Thats the same as our CAA plans here. They're good to have.

Now that I have a non working bike and crappy insurance, back to the topic , I followed Haynes directions and hooked up the fuel pump yellow to the positive battery terminal, then black/yellow to the negative terminal...and nothing. No hum. According to Haynes, that means to replace it.
Anyone disagree?

If those wires are directly at the fuel pump and not somewhere along in the harness where a relay or a bad wire could be the cause then yeah it sounds like the pump might be the issue.

Is there a relay for the fuel pump on your bike or just on the FI models?

Sounds like the pump is dead.

I will look for a relay that may be in a different location, but I didn't see one. Will check Haynes again as well but fairly sure they don't mention it

According to Haynes, the carb models don't have a relay

I think I would look at a wiring schematic to verify if there is a relay or not, I wouldn't necessarily rely on a table of contents.

Good point and good idea. I appreciate it. Haynes has a great color wiring chart. I'll check it out.

Perhaps someone with a real Kawasaki service manual could check for you as well. I've seen things omitted from Haynes manuals.
