Also from the the Insurance Bureau website ...

"Changes to the auto insurance system have made auto insurance more affordable in Ontario. Going forward, auto insurers will work with the government to make sure the system is providing good value to consumers, and will continue to look for new ways to offer auto insurance at the lowest possible price to all Ontarians."

Sounds all rosie the way they spin intervention. Like the banks ... self regulation just don't cut it. Why would the insurance industry need government watching if they weren't gouging the public in the first place.

I have been with Progressive for years I have both cars and the nomad with them about twice a year I think they are gouging me so I check other company's but Progressive is always cheaper. I have full coverage on all my stuff and when Bea (my wife) fell off the bike they payed all the bills as fast as they came in so I think I will stay with them a little longer.

OK...#1.....I do not sell insurance.

#2 - Look, I hate paying it too. For the record, I pay around $3500 dollars a year for 3 cars and 1 motorcycle. Over half is for a 16 year old. There are NO violations or accidents for any of the 3 drivers. I have really high liability limits.

But, to have a financially sound future, it is a must have, and I understand and accept the reasons it is high....I don't like it....but I know why (FRAUD is #1 from "covering" deductibles, to inflating claims, to unscrupulous plaintiff attorneys, to arson, to staged accidents and on and on)... Insurance is not a savings account...I might not get back what I put in....hopefully I won't have to get any back.... It's almost like a bet or gamble.

I think taking the industry income ( your 4 billion profit reference ) is kind of "out of context"...

The U.S. movie industry made $9.8 billion.
The U.S. porn industry made $13.3 billion.
The U.S. farming industry made $86.9 billion. (2008 forecast)

Now to Canada: (2004)

Manufacturing (all sectors) - 49 billion profits
Wood and paper manufacturing only - 6.6 billion
Petroleum and coal producers - 9.4 billion
Primary metal producer - 2.5 billion
Chemical manufacturing - 7.3 billion
Motor vehicle and parts manufacturing - 2.4 billion
Wholesalers - 15.2 billion
Retailers - 14.1 billion
Banks - 21.3 billion

It's economy of scale and the numbers get to be baffling. Maybe BD can debaffle them for us

Yeah, you're probably right about the government watching it to make sure the public's best interest is taken care of ..............(NOW THAT WAS FACETIOUS!!!!!)

Hey, good luck bro! I hope it works out for the best for you and may you never have to make a claim.

Hope to see you in Custer....I'll buy you a beer with some of those profits ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I have progressive insurance and they are great...Had 1 accident and was surprised that the coverage did not go up. Could not get the bike insured thru USAA who handles my autos so they referred me to Progressive

Even though I'm still 2 weeks away from picking up my brand new '08 black Nomad, I've already bought the first year's insurance on it. A company called American Modern, who underwrites for MetLife, gave me a price of $399 per year for complete coverage. I thought that was pretty good. Already having my endorsement and taking the MSF Ridercourse probably helped, along with not having a ticket in 15 years and never having a wreck in my entire life. MetLife wanted $1,000, Progressive wanted $1,500 and Foremost wanted $1,050. Ridiculous discrepancies!

I went with Progressive and they are the cheapest around and in Sept. I had to file a claim :'( and they totaled my Honda and they almost gave me what I paid for the bike four years ago. ;) When I bought my Nomad in Dec. the price for the Nomad was only $50 more than my Honda 750.

Well I got my renewal notice with Markel yesterday. Went from $385 last year to $510 this year. I decided to jump out on the Progressive site and get a quote. Wow! They quoted me only $276 for the same coverage as with Markel.

I think I've got a new insurer!

My homeowners and auto are with Farm Bureau. When I purchased the Nomad I asked my agent for a quote and he advised me to go to Progressive. My agent told me that it would have been the same for the bike as either my Suburban or pickup truck. They don't insure motorcycles as motorcycles, just another vehicle. I have a high end policy with Progressive for a little over $220 per year.
