Doc, the strap wrench Trip pictured and the one I use is NOT rubber. It is , well I don't know what it is made of, but it is not a rubber strap. I'm going to say the same stuff a ratchet strap is made of.

Ha! laughing with you! At least you didn't panic too bad. I always think its going to come loose too so tighten it up, hard to change the way a person thinks I guess.

Just changed my oil the other day. Had to use the old screw driver trick.
