Front-end wobble low speeds - RESOLVED

I've been watching this thread cause mine has the same problem. Most noticeably at 30-40 mph. I'm wondering if this is something that would be covered under warranty? I still have about 7 months on mine. Not sure if there is a mileage limitation or not.

Its bad though, not the smooth ride I have been accustomed to for the past year.

I think Spirello nailed it. I'm surprised how many shops don't know how to install a front wheel.

That's what has me worried.

Front-end wobble low speeds - RESOLVED

The front-end wobble I reported having at the beginning of this thread has been resolved.

I want to thank everyone for all the suggestions. I related them to the mechanic I used and he was impressed that so many had such good insight into the potential problems.

His immediate thought however was front-tire cupping -- and that is all it was.

Replaced the front tire with a Metzler (sp?) and the wobble is gone. I personally couldn't see it -- but he showed me -- it wasn't much "cupping" in my inexperienced opinion -- but he said it sometimes doesn't take much.

He said sometimes tires can have "internal" problems as well that can cause a side-to-side wobble -- which is a dangerous situation according to him.

He said that he would not recommend going very far on a tire that wobbles at any speed until you have someone look at it first to make sure it is only a cupping problem -- whereby then you can ride until the tire is replaced.

Anyway... thanks for everyone's suggestions!! And it sounds like there was some good advice given on KawaNOW (as if I wouldn't expect only the best)!

Greg

Absolutely true, and it is usually delamination, where the layers of the tire start to seperate. It makes a weak spot, throws the tire off-balance, and can sometimes be seen as a bubble or just a minor swelling somewhere on the tire.

Glad the tire fixed it and nothing more serious.

Front-end wobble low speeds - RESOLVED

I put the new Avon Cobra on today and just got back from the test ride. No more wobble here, either.

And as everyone says, the difference in ride & handling compared to the stock 'Stones is amazing. Noticeably smother ride and leans into a turn much easier and sure footed. I've read all this several times but it just isn't the same as experiencing it for yourself.
