I am simply trying to see what is and what isn't missing or broken, so he can get a grip on what that is and make it right. I thought that was the point.

Others saw what I did not. I am sorry if this was seen as picking on a fellow Nomad rider.
I had no such intent.

On my 99 there is a cast pin that comes down from the bottom of the steering head that acts as the steering stop. This mates up to the bottom of the triple tree and the one in is the stop for both directions. Check to see if the pin is still there if not you will not have a turn stop until something else hits. It is actually a part of the cast head welded into the frame.

Here is possible reason of tank dents:
Somehow both windscreen brackets moved back, reaching tank in turns (screen is removed). Arrows show bent places. Are your brackets bent in the same places?

I have a couple imperfections in my tank. I just bought a leather tank chap to cover them up. You can buy them in several configurations to cover many areas.

I don't like to tinker...that is the beauty of Nomads....turn the key and ride em. Or if you like to tinker with em you can.

Both of those brackets are bent back, they should be straight.

From the pics and the comments already made, you need to see how far up and back the whole front end of the Nomad has been pushed. The only way the windshield bracket would hit the side of a tank is if the front end has been pushed up and in. You should check for frame damage as well.

Any chance the guy you bought this bike from is the guy that crashed it? Asking what happened might be a real good idea.

You are finding a lot of superfical damage, that could lead to some real problems, like a cracked gooseneck, bad head bearings, bent triple trees, forks, and shock related problems.

Fixing bling is one thing, but if there is hidden damage that matters in handling and stopping and all the bling is fixed forst most of it won't matter a whit.
