new question: I had all my accesories and lights on today at fast idle....voltage at the battery was 13.8 to 13.9....does this mean i am ok on alternator?

yes I noticed the space around the headlight does not look bad but may look A little better if it was tighter . A personal choice looks great enjoy

Mine reads about the same, I never have had readings as high as the manual states. I would say you are fine.

Kudzu, Welcome to the "Nomad Fairing Brigade" does look sharp. Also, your voltages are about the same as mine too.

KZu, I have the 2 1/2 inch risers (really just a round extension that hooks to bottom of stock bar mount) from scoot works on my bike. I orginally mounted the top of fairing in the forward holes because in full rear position the top of handle bar mounts hit the fairing radio cover. I took the risers off and used the fairing mounts rear holes top and bottom and the aerodynamics was better, especially less turbulence from below around Knees (I have stock lowers), so I wanted that position but it was miserable riding without the risers! So I tried slotting the upper fairing mount bolt holes and putting the fairing as far back as it would go with out hitting and that was better but ultimately I used a dremel and notched the bottm lip of the fairing radio flip up cover and was able to push it all the way back. I have experimented with different shield heights also (I'm 6 ft and like to look over shield) and have ended up with a 9 inch on it now.

Thanks Trosco......I think I am going to ride with it for a while where it is and see how it does......I currently have it mounted in the rear attachment holes on the fairing itself......no problem in notching the lower slot of the fork mounting bracket, but not a lot of room to notch the top holes......I still think that if you slotted the top hole on the fairing mounting holes you could tilt the fairing forward slightly to move it closer to the headlight w/o having to slot the fork mounting brackets........I'll give it a couple of weeks and fool with it later. I'm 5'11" and right now I have a 10" clear that I think will work

All this fairing talk makes me start thinking about my next project.

I really like the look of the fairing on a Nomad and the radio and speakers look better in a fairing then mounted on handlebars like I used to have.

So thank you for helping me spend more of my money.

So I think I'm going to go ahead an order the same fairing for my 2006 Nomad. I'm a little torn on the windshield size to get though.

You say you ordered the 10" clear? Is that the one in the pictures? How do you find it? I'm 6' even and am unsure what size to get. I would like to be able to have my eyesight level just over the top of the windshield when riding.

The stock windshield on the Nomad at the lowest setting I can look over and is just about right to give you an idea of what I'm looking for.

Slick

fairing Install Today (now with pictures)

I have the Phat II risers and a HD outer fairing mounted with a Lee Sido made mount. the windshield is a 10" Long Ride Shield ( http://harleyshields.com/ ) with a recurve. My old stock windshield was set at the lowest position this combination has the top of the shield in the same place. Last Sunday we went for a short ride of 280 miles and everything was so much better than before. The bike was more stable at speeds ( 70-80 ) and the gas mileage about the same as before (43). I will never go back to just a plain windshield. I am having the high school tech kids color match the paint which should be in the next couple weeks. Pictures will follow. My son says it added 20 MPH to my riding speed. I am not a speed demon.
