He didn't have to move though did he?
He found a new job pretty close to his place.
Which is a good thing
But I think he did buy a GW.

I know that, he found a job that was only 12 miles away, I think.
I was only repeating what Trip gave as his reason for stepping down.

$400 = Ouch! Pretty typical though. It would be nice to control XM with the bike's radio controls, but that price tag has kept me at bay on the VV.

You are right that the VV's auto volume is set at flat (or 0) from the factory. You have to go into the settings and it has five different settings available. Probably something similar on the XCT.

I've been keeping my ear to the ground waiting for Harley and Victory to do a test ride event. I would like to get a real ride in to see what both bikes are like. When I test drove the XC before I bought the Voyager, they gave me a specific route to take that didn't allow for a real feel for the bike.

The dealership I bought the Voyager from has a used 2008 Goldwing on the floor. Next time I'm over there I may get them to let me take it out. I would like to get some real seat time on several bikes before I purchase my next one. That has not been my MO in the past.

It may sound like I'm shopping bikes already, but I'm really not. I'm just in a constant state of curiosity about bikes in general. I suffer from a disease that makes me continuously think about what's next. When it comes to motorcycles, I see the top of the food chain as the Victory Cross Country Tour, the Harley Electra Glide and the Honda Goldwing. The touring bike has become my preferred style of riding as my trips get longer and longer.

There are certain things that draw me to each of these three bikes.

The XCT has the best ergonomics of any of the three in my opinion and the storage is unmatched for traveling. It has a dedicated, excited fleet of owners who can't say enough good things about it. I have spent some time lurking on the Victory forums and the XCT seems to suffer from some of the same minor issues as the Voyager. One of which is the narrow number of aftermarket parts. One thing that makes me a little leery of the XCT is the youth of the model line and the limited number of shops available to service the bikes. Still... it remains high on my list of possibilities.

The Electra Glide is an old, time tested soldier that appears to be at the top of it's game currently. There was a time when I would not even consider a HD because of the brand's reliability issues. No more. My friends with late model HDs (post 2008) love their bikes and have few, if any maintenance issues. People make fun of Harleys as being slow, but one of my friends uses me up on his Street Glide in the twisties. That thing is low to the ground and well balanced and I can't keep up with him in the corners. The Harley bikes also offer a level of customer support that is unparalleled. Every Thursday night the Harley dealership in town puts on a bike night event and invites owners of all brands. They have live music with $1 beers and eats. You just don't see things like that at any other manufacturer dealership. The in-stock availability of parts for these bikes are unmatched as well. When I'm around the dealership or HD owners in general, I actually want to be part of that nostalgia.

The Goldwing is the benchmark in touring motorcycles. There is nothing on the market that has that level of time tested reliability for long distance touring. The creature comforts and power of this bike is simply amazing. I can easily see myself on one of these bikes. Tons of aftermarket support, although the bike is so well equipped from the factory that I'm not sure just how much you would need to add to it. The downside of it is the fact that it has and forever will be known as "your father's motorcycle". As modern as it is in it's current form, you almost feel like you are moving away from being a "biker" by saddling up on the GW. It's almost too plush and comfortable; bordering on car-like.

At any rate, I enjoy hearing about what you all enjoy about your current rides. It plays well to my addiction for all things motorcycle. Only time will tell what my next bike will be. It might even be something else that is introduced by Kawasaki or Yamaha.

There are several things that I could name that would improve the current 1700 platform. I don't care for it when others talk down on the 1700 line though, so I'm not going to go there in my own posts.

And it seems that most guys here now prefer full dressers so that leaves the Nomad and Vaquero out. I'm still very happy w my 08 Nomad as I prefer a windshield w hard bags. I love all things motorcycle and overall imo in the cruiser/tourer dept Harley makes great looking bikes and Victory makes great performing bikes. There is a lot of choice for great bikes now and that's a good thing for all of us. I'm always going to have at least 2 bikes..a bagger w a windshield and a regular cruiser for shorter rides. If I ever decide on a full dresser it will add to the stableI'll give Voyager the 1st look but will ride them all before buying. Another bike not mentioned often is the Royal Star Venture. It probably is due for an upgrade but they have lots of repeat owners w very high mileage bikes. Lots of great bikes out there an devery mile I put on my Nomad makes me grin like a little kid

If anyone from Long Island is interested in riding a Victory there is a demo ride at Island Powersports on Sunrise Highway in MASSAPEQUA on June 25 and 26th.

Nah, too easy to turn you against each other, what with all that "my bike is better than your bike" stuff. In the meantime, Vulcan riders will take over and rule the world!

The XM radio unit on the XCT is integrated into the bike's radio controls. You flip through the mode switch from AM, FM, XM, AUX, etc....but all the same controls are used for whatever mode you are in.

I currently ride an Electra Glide Classic (2012). I haven't done any serious touring yet but love how well it fits me. H-D touring bikes got a new frame starting in 2009, many people think that 2009 and newer touring bikes handle like a dream.

Also, Indian is going to unveil a new bike in Sturgis this year. Check out the all new 111ci motor, if you haven't seen it yet.
