That is about the 3rd post on here where they will have a spare key in the bags and not be able to get to it

Okay, okay. Maybe I can put an end to this inquistion. I don't lock my saddlebags. Any kid with a pen knife could pop them open even if they were locked.

Excellent idea on utilizing that space.

One question though, how will you get into the saddlebag to get the Allen wrench if you've lost your key? I suppose maybe you've modified the lock so you can remove the key without locking the saddlebags.

Wow huge response... thanks guys. Lot of good idea's for sure.
I reckon kybenz use of the left dog bowl is great...going to look into that.
Ziplock bag and ziptied somewhere under/on frame is another I didn't think of.

The main aim was to have an accessable/disguised/away from prying eyes, hidey place that I can just grab without carrying any extra tools or bits.

How's this for an idea.... left or right side covers that open on a hinge when you punch a security code into a keypad built into them..... of course don't think there would be much room left behind to hold anything lol.

Anyways...it's Australia day today and I got's me a ride with the boys through the hills this morning so I gotta shake a leg and get going.......... Thanks again everyone... :)

pondered the same question after purchasing my Nomad. I have a backrest on mine, I think it's a fire and steel, anyway I noticed the pad has a zipper on the bottom. So I thought that would be a perfect place to stash the key that I just paid about $10 for. Unzipped the pad and lo and behold the previous owner had the same thought,....there was already a spare key there. Now I have 2 spares.

That's a common key hiding place. Sort of like the house key under the doormat.

There are more than a few good places to hide a key. I have used a few of the suggested spots, and I've changed it up more than a few times too.
Has anyone that wears a helmet ever tucked one up between the liner and the shell? I moved it from there though when I put the tour pak on the bike and started keeping the helmet in the trunk. I keep my trunk key separate so could keep it there still, but...........or zap strapped one to the wires between the steering column and the fuel tank ? I use to hang mine on the left side so with the wheel "cocked"while on the kickstand, there was never a chance of it being visible. .... I have also kept one behind the chrome underside of the passenger foot boards. I had the correct size "Allen wrench" in the trunk that will fit the screws to remove the cover.

What a wonderful thread anouncing to the world where to find a spare key. If the theft rate goes up on Nomads after this then we can all cash in the insurance check and buy a new bike.

I wonder if a key without the plastic wrap around bit on the head would fit into the front axle tube ?.... as long as you had axle covers that came off without needing any tools.
Worth looking into you think ?
Pete.
