A top of the line goldwing and Roadmaster go for that much and aren't in the same league performance wise.

many bmw riders trade before the warranty runs out because of the high cost of dealer maintenance and reliability issues.one problem is the fact that independent shops can't work on them because of all the specialty tools needed for common repairs.i know someone who has told me that he has never goten out of of a bmw service shop for less then $1200.

All in the eye of the rider. As for me, if I had 30K it would go to a Goldwing.

I have been looking at some possible rides from Red Lodge. Several things to keep in mind. This part of the “west” may still be in the summer monsoon” season – meaning afternoon thunderstorms often with hail and strong winds are possible/common. If you are not in the mountains, afternoon temps may be in the 90s. The two times I have been on the Beartooth Highway in late July I saw temps in the low 30s in the AM and ice on the road in shadowed areas. If you plan on a ride through Yellowstone you will see many places to stop and see things – factor that into your planned time for the ride. It will also be the peak of the summer travel season for YELL – lots of traffic and full parking lots.

Can't fault that statement Bill.

I won't be actively purchasing one for about a year from now.
I'll see what kind of deal I can make at that time.
I do know that they would have to make a super deal for me to buy a leftover as compared to present year bike. I would like to roll into a new bike every few years and with their 3ASY RIDE I should be able to. To have a bike already a year old might not be as good on the trade in side.

I think the reason you are seeing so many used newer bikes is because people are taking advantage of the 3ASY RIDE.(maybe)

Did that include tires? I know the valve check on a K1600 is $400 just for the check and double that if it's needs to be changed. That's every 18K miles. BMW sells more boxer engined bikes, but I see a disproportionate number of the big K bikes. Some good deals can be gotten, but I have to wonder if there were any issues like oil use. The early 1600s had issues. I hope they worked it out as it's a rocking bike. That said, extended warranties can be purchased and on that bike it might be worth it. A member of the local BMW club passed away around christmas and he had a 2012 K1600GT with 24K miles. I had the opportunity to buy it at under 14K. New it's 26K+. I'm attracted to the KGT, but the RT is a much safer bet and a little less money too. It's a good thing the GT is above my pay grade.

Some of them are sold privately and relatively cheap. I have to wonder if they want another bike and the trade in sucks, so they sell it super reasonable privately.

Only 6K miles.

Goldwings are good. But I already have a heavy touring bike with old technology. I want something newer and fresher.

Too long in tooth and heavy. The bike really needs a major makeover.

Bikes, unlike us, can be overhauled.
