Pompeys Pillar National Monument
http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/content/mt...PILLAR_NM.html

There are some cool historical boards at the top of the rock that have quotes taken from their journal about the view from atop the rock...how they could see buffalo and elk herds for as far as their eyes could see. Now days... you have a great view of I-94 and a railroad track. It was long a gathering place for native Americans of differing tribes. His inscription in the rock is under some glass to protect it, but it is pretty cool for sure.

William Clark carved his initials in the rock in 1806 on his return east down the Yellowstone River prior to meeting back up with Lewis, who was coming back down the Missouri. It is the only permanent remnant of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Yeah, very early American graffiti.........climb the steps all the way around and just read the carvings in the rock.............my brother lives just down the road a few miles and I've been to Pompeys pillar a number of times.

I'm going to be in Oregon the weekend before on a Rally ride (Volusia Riders). Will be coming back that week and staying in Billings for a few days so I will probably just ride down for a day to "visit".

Looks like I will be coming along with the wife. Staying at one of the other motels unless there are a couple of cancellations between now and then. Tentatively make a faster run up and it looks like taking the long way home. Norma is coming with the car from a prior commitment back east and we are looking at different options for the trip afterwards. Our typical planned but unplanned travel.

Well the one person senior to me who could affect my vacation decided to take July/Aug vacation for the first time in 23 years . I've had to cancel my reservation so likely someone on the waiting list should get a call as he mentioned he had a list of folks looking for a room.

Going to miss seeing some of you again and meeting some others, hope to catch you at the next go round.
