Funny. I've been looking for inner peace my entire life.

Congrats Ring! I think I've decided to go with the Reckless fairing. I think I like the idea of it being ready to install as is. I'll have it painted after I get it and install my own stereo and speakers. After all the talk and the thinking I put into it, I don't need/want all the gauges associated with the HD fairings and the extra costs that goes along with it.

Just got the Nomad back tonight and am very happy with the way its turned out, it feels like a new bike as the bearings were shot to hell in the head and front wheel. I have the harley on the lift so will try and clean it up as much as I can, then I'll decide if I get the forks polished or not. For the moment I am just hoping for good weather to ride the Nomad in this coming weekend. Well wear, as we say here on the outer fairing and good luck tracking down the inner part.

Adding the gauges is easy. The 2 1/16" gauges (generic size) fit neatly into the fairing then it's just 2 hot/2 ground/sender wires for each. You can daisy chain the hot/ground. Plug them all in to a fuse block and you only have a few extra wires to run from the fairing to the bike.

Thanks but I know as much about wiring as the man in the moon so I'll leave it to the wiring guy if I ever get that far as looking at your list on your batwing checklist thread I see I am missing 5 items Here is your checklist (with your kind permission) with my comments in BOLD as to where i am at with it, its not looking like this job is going to get done anytime soon! -inner fairing Got it. -outer fairing Got it. -(2) trim pieces For what?? -bolts (inner to outer and windshield) Nuts, I forgot! -Chucksters brackets (on the way) Got them. -windshield (on the way) Not yet, I'll pick one when its mounted. -small gauge block off plate Have all 5 Guages! -headlight Going with the existing Nomad light -headlight mounting assembly N/A as I'll use the existing headlight. -materials for wiring harness Meeting so called wiring expert so will see what he says. -something to fill large (speedo/tach) holes N/A as I have the Guages Stereo. Completely forgot about it Speakers. Ditto the stereo I can see this taking all Summer with the speed people here are working at so I'm starting to realistically think it might be wiser to just put the hard lowers on it and ride it when we have some nice weather and get the rest done over next winter!

There are 2 pieces of molding/trim that go on the sides of the inner fairing where it meets the outer. I didn't realize these were there until I looked at the pics of my recent eBay purchase. Ronnies HD says they're about $5US each so that's around $495 each over there, I'm sure.
No nuts needed, just bolts. If you buy any outer windshield chrome trim, it'll probably come with them. You have how many? There are holes for 6 gauges, not 5. Big speedo and tach in the center (which it turns out you can't use), 2 small (2 1/16") gauges either side of the stereo and 2 small gauges just above those. I've got 3 small gauges so I just need a 4th (as much for balance as anything else) and a big tach. Dunno what I'll do with the other large hole but it'll need something eventually for balance/symmetry. Quote:
See above.

Any of the HD headlights Ive seen go for way to much, I may just cut the fairing and use the stock headlamp.

I don't think $60 was bad. It was the entire assembly including the headlight. It will need a new bulb but those are cheap. I think it takes 4 or 6 screws to secure it to the outer fairing. The pic in the auction showed those but even if it doesn't come with them, those are cheap.

Hey Chris, can you put a cigarette lighter in one of the empty holes? That would give a direct power source for a phone charger, Ipod charger, GPS, or what ever. Just an idea.

The HD fairings have a spot for cig/elect. power source.

At Least. No nuts needed, just bolts. If you buy any outer windshield chrome trim, it'll probably come with them. Good to know! You have how many? There are holes for 6 gauges, not 5. My Bad! Yeah I meant I got all 6 gauges! You're aware you'll have to cut the opening, right? I just bought a complete assembly (including headlight and trim ring) for about $60 on eBay. 4 screws, plug in the light and I'm done. Almost impossible to screw up. (Even for me.) Yeah I know but my headlight is very nice looking and although a HD headlight might be bought for $60 on eBay it will cost that again to ship it to me! Then again I don't like the thought of cutting a fairing either I'll have to think about that long and hard before I give the go ahead to cut the fairing as then there's no way back
