For those who put Sealed Beam bulbs in Cobra Aux

Texas is still into black and white huh? If I had the eagle logo ther SP use the bike is dead nuts on the colors.. I don't like black lids and so have a silver one, the cop half shell no less..

If my pony tail isn't whippin in the wind, which I don't like anyway, I get ID as a Statie by lots of cars..

i don't think the staties are very impressed by me though, and i didn't buy the bike or try to look like them

I was out the other day just putting around and stopped in a NAPA store to see if they had the fluted amber sealed beams. I pulled right up near the door with the bike and asked if he had the sealed amber bulbs in stock. He took a look in his catalog and had at least one in stock, pulled it out and sure enough, same bulb. $15 plus tax. Cheaper than J&P.

NAPA is everywhere.......I think. Anyway at least I know I can get a bulb from them even if they don't have one in stock.

Flavor,

Do you have a NAPA part number? I called and asked today. I said I was looking for a 4411 or 4411A; they had no record of any such thing.

Thats a standard p/n for those sealed beams, its just not a NAPA p/n. They would have to look it up in a lighting catalog and cross it over to thier p/n. Either the guy is new or he just didn't want to bother helping you out.

nighthawk700, The way to get the spring clip out is to grab one ear, at as far from center as you can get, and push the plyiers down into the bezel, and pull the end clearing the bezel, and suddenly the clip will just about fall out.

Do one lamp first and replace with which ever bulb you are gonna use, and install it all up right. Then do the other one and you will have a referance to the clips.

Ok I have a question? How are the amber running lights at night? I do alot of riding at night and would not loose any vision from them not showing up the side of the road as good. Or do you not notice any difference?

Thanks

I don't loose any vision at night with amber lights. In fact, I think it improves vision. Just my opinion tho.

Sorry I didn't get into part numbers. He looked at the fluted amber light on my bike, went to a catalog and pulled one out in two minutes. I looked at it and it looks the same as the ones I got from J&P Cycles. By the way, I was told that the regular amber lights sold by J&P (without the fluting) were 30 watt bulbs. The ones with the fluting were 35 watt. But here's the kicker, The fluting suppossedly eats up some of the brightness.

Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible from the above "heresay", information from J&P Cycles.............

Hey Mac I had the same question to Trip when I did mine. Those springs are so strong that the end of standard needlenose pliers were bending before I could get enough bend on the clips to get them out. I had to go to the short stubby needlenose. I responded somewhere about how, when I tried to put the spring clips back, I had to find the clips 2 or 3 times after they sprung somewhere in my shed.

My tools are Snap On and not made in Tie one On. My plyiers are not gonna bend on whimpy little clips like that.

With that said don't let one get away and fly, as it might poke yer eye out. These and spring clips like these but a bit different have been around longer than I have.

VW Bugs used these same dammned things and i hated them then and I would hate them now. These are as bad a Jesus Clips which look like a rounded E, and sometimes are found in carb linkage, usually tiny.

Someone here mentioned 'Stiletto Nuts' but I'll be dammned if I know what that is, and i asked a good friend of mine in the industry and he never heard of them either.

I am guessing I know what they are, but with some other name.

Oh yuh these amber lamps are made for low visibilty, like hard rains, and foggy weather where real bright simply isn't what you want.

The yellow light cut better in mist and fog, snow too. The lenses are made in such a way when they are ribbed to throw a even light to the sides as well as ahead, but not very far ahead.

The yellow will increase the color spectrums and so you can see colors better in low light levels too.

These are not the driving lamp type to get if you want to see 300 yards ahead doing 90 mph.

Now on coming traffic is going to see yellow a long time from where you are. So it is a good day time bulb so far as that goes.

With white in the center it should give a on coming driver some awareness of 'biker' and how far..

If you are one of the bright light in blue mode riders and have these yellow lamps, you will appear GREEN to the on coming, who may shoot at you for being a space alien!

I went to Napa. They think it might be a 4416 or something like that. They had a few things they thought of. One was $20 each, the other was $15 each. I got a set for $15 each on order. Will pick up next week and see for sure.

That's what I wanted........the Alien look. I do feel people somehow notice you more with the amber lights. They wonder what the hell is that coming......especially in dreary weather.

I don't ride much at night so not as concerned about night time driving. I definitely don't drive 80 at night in the places I go........you know no street lights and with hunting down nationally........too many Bambis running around. My wife and I have hit 5 deer in the last 7 yrs. with the cars............
