30 MPG on a new Nomad?

IMO the Nomad is so overly lean that adding fuel with a modual will infact improve both power and MPG's.

I would be very interested in seeing someone with a stock 1600 add no more than a TFI fuel modual. No other intake or exhaust accessories, as a test..

That is way too late for me as there is no way I am putting my bike back to stock, unless some day a buyer wants it that way.

A Nomad is hundreds of pounds heavier than HD Dressers too!

BD is right. If I ride the highway at 60-65, little wind, no hills 1-up. I can get 45+ MPG easily...2003 -1500cc.

If I ride 10,000 miles a year @ lets say an average of 40 mpg (I am usually 38-42 per tank) that is 250 gallons @ 2.30 per gallon = $575 in fuel a year. If I ride an HD @ 50 MPG. ...it will save me less than $150 in a year....hardley enough to justify the extra $5-7,000 for an HD (not to mention the additional main/repair/ins costs needed for an HD).

macmac,

I will let you know. I am planning to get a Power Commander or some sort of fuel module (I have to research which one is the best for the 1600 FI) but I want to rack up a few thousand miles first on the engine. Since I want to take the scoot back to Europe I will not be able to change the pipes (noise emission) and I am not sure about the intake - how it is going to modify the emission standards. Our equivalent of DMV is really strict to enforce the emission standards, worst than in California I guess.

I am curious about the MPG change as well...

30 MPG on a new Nomad?

Going to Sturgis last year, I got a consistant 41 mpg with the Nomad and my broter got 45 on his HD Fat boy. It didn't matter to me, but it sure made his ego blossem.

One thing to keep in mind regarding comparing to HD mpgs, Nomad odometers tend to be spot on but with the speedo reading fast. It's been suggested, by someone here other than me, that HD's odos and speedos run on the high side by as much as 10% accounting for some of the difference. Next time you are riding with a HD buddy who thinks he's getting such great mpg, check two consecutive fill-ups with him after riding the same routes and see what you get, might be surprised.

Stan: How do you like your new nomad? bags? overall?? Nice looking bike.

Love the Nomad. Riding my 800 to and from work this week with a For Sale sign on the windshield. Lots of traffic goes by the office and I need room in the garage. It feels tiny and LOUD after riding the Nomad.

Mac, I have a TFI on my 1600 with no intake and only a BlownDodge bafflectomy.

My mileage dropped about 2-3 mph with the TFI, to about 35mpg.. But I admit to cranking the throttle more since I dont have the ping issues. The TFI is sweet. Makes the bike run cooler, idle better, less ping. My mileage probably really did not drop, I became more demanding. Oops, sorry, I got off the subject.
