New sub forum?
Don't know what politics, race or Obama (maybe they're all the same) have to do with me and my Nomad, anyway. I don't think I'll reply to any more of those, anyway, don't want to make enemies on this great forum. Jamie

New sub forum?
I wouldn't mind seeing all political, religious, other espousing of personal beliefs, or potentially offensive stuff on a separate sub-forum, not to silence anyone. I agree with LW that the appropriate sub-forum already exists, the Lighter Side...Misc one. The Off-Nomad...General board's title does indicate that posts should be somewhat motorcycle related, other than just being posted by a rider.

JamieP24 said it perfect. I am here first & formost for the love of riding and the Nomad.
My political opinions are just that; mine. I have no ill feelings to the people who write the politics based posts as they have a right to do so. Just as have a right not to!

New sub forum?
For the new guys here, this forum was created when happy birthdays and such started crowding the main board. So for a long time this forum was people talking about their jobs, cool stuff they were doing and what was going on in their lives that might be of interest to friends.
Then last year, the first political posts started. I pm'd the moderator at that time and said good luck with how this is going to go. It ended up getting more and more a debate forum, even though it wasn't called that. I stopped reading political threads when myself and another member were told to f**k ourselves. I was joking with Blown Dodge in this thread, as we have done similar throughout our time here, and he knows that I really look up to him and think highly of him. The one that told me to f**k off had no such feelings and had a history of never trying to further a conversation. He was basically a troll. Because he was of the political persuasion of the majority, nobody stood up and said, Hey we don't want the board going this way, knock if off. When I joke with BD, they will, but if someone angrily tells me to f**k off nobody said a thing. So I decided that I won't participate in the political threads. I liked the way this was before. People telling friends about themselves and what they are doing rather than the heavy threads where only one point of view is welcome. That turns things divisive and either you are one of the majority, or you will be told to f**k off. I think that there ought to be a forum where the majority can have their orgy of sameness and backslapping and we can just choose not to go to that forum. We would still be able to come here like it was before and here what is going on in peoples lives. Scroll back a year and you can see how it used to be in here. This is now like VROC's debate forum, only births and jobs and all that is now in the debate forum. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

New sub forum?
I tend to avoid political or divisive threads, both here and at VROC, but I'm going to weigh in here.
I got involved in KawaNOW because I found a place where we all have a common interest and I have met some great people here. I have never expected that we would all see eye to eye on every aspect of our lives, especially controversial ones like politics, religion and many social issues we can't agree on as a country, let alone a motorcycle forum. I understand that there are people who really enjoy a good debate. It's sort of like a hobby, to have a spirited discussion back and forth and enjoy a free exchange of ideas, and that's great. The Internet is full of forums just for that purpose. I am an audio engineer, and I like to have discussions about the Haas effect or the latest Digital Console. DSP or line array calculator. So I go to Pro Audio forums to have those discussions. I don't think it's necessary to create a sub forum at KawaNOW for the audio people who may be here. Now, I am certainly not opposed to having a sub forum for debate if that's what the leadership here chose to do. I would never presume to tell Trip how to run this place, I think he's doing a fine job. I probably won't go in one, because that's not what I come here for. But if others here do come here for debate, great! Have fun! I just think that any online forum is basically a microcosm of society as a whole. We all come from different backgrounds and have different values, but let's enjoy our Nomads and ride. Along the way some of us will connect and life long friendships will be formed. Others will not connect and that's okay. By the way, there are forums where I get into some serious debates, but like I said, I don't come here for that. So, that's my take on it. Now...who did I offend? ![]()

Wow! Interesting conversation. It's always difficult to convey ideas in writing when the listener (reader) can't see the facial expressions and body language of the speaker. I hope this works itself out okay.

I'm with audio on this. I like to have discussions about the Haas effect or the latest Digital Console. DSP or line array calculator also. :-/
Yeah, like I know what the hell he is talkin' about ![]() I come here to talk about and learn things about my Nomad. I also come to see whats going on in other members life. There are many on here I have never ment in person but I still consider them my friends. For me it hasn't changed that much from the old days. I read what I want and skip what doesn't interest me.

Guys just in case you don't know, Dan and I are friends. He eloquently states his position as he's highly skilled in analysing people and I just throw beer!!!! He likes to challange people's belief system and when he does I throw haymakers at him!!!
![]() I agree with trip in that a sub board may be a "bashing ground" from individuals to throw stones and if you all know my history with being ganged up on at KawaNOW, that ain't a good thing. The gangsters have left KawaNOW for the good of all! ![]()

New sub forum?
I will say the same thing as i said when the "porn" issue arose. Im not against it , but thats not what i come here for. there are a million sites out there that i can go to if thats what i want to spend my time doing. same goes with a debate sub- forum. plenty of sites you can go to, if thats what you want. not that im tryin to tell you what to do, Trip, but maybe this is a poll question we should have. But ultimately this is your decision, and i will stay here no matter what. to me this is the best forum im on right now. even tho i dont post as much as some.

New sub forum?
There are two other forums I frequent that have NMR Debate sections. They have proven to be a pain for the admins and for the membership. I have witnessed time and time again two members arguing in the NMR, then the hard feelings carry over into the main boards. Most, if not all, can carry on a debate without getting too agitated, but every now and then someone comes along and takes things personally. Next thing you know everyone is mad over something that probably shouldn't have been discussed in the first place.
I've been reading and listening to everyone's comments. While the staff and I have discussed this issue before, feelings and needs of a group do change over time. There are times when another look at an issue is warranted. However, on this issue, I'm still getting the sense that it's really not wanted or needed. It's been asked exactly what can a member talk about other than Nomad issues. In the General / Non-Motorcycle related area, one can talk just about anything. But, I would be careful and limit talk on controversial subjects such as politics, religion, etc. Just keep in mind what the mission of KawaNOW is......it's to provide a place for Nomad owners to learn more about their Nomads and to provide comradery. For what it's worth, here is an excerpt from the Forum FAQ: - The KawaNOW forum prides itself on being a little different than other forums. Here we like to communicate as if we are looking at you from across a table, discussing an issue. Humor is practiced heavily on KawaNOW. Although it might be perceived as ridicule at times, please know that it is not our intent to ridicule or treat you with disrespect. - Feel free to express your feelings on KawaNOW, however, you may not get the response you want at times. Please keep that in mind and be respectful of that. - We want you to become part of the group, contributing any information or experience you may have with the Nomad. However, in communicating with others, we ask that you keep and open mind to our discussions and be slow to anger. Take the bad with the good in every thread and be patient.
