Transmission Problem, part two

Remember me and my 1500 Nomad? I went to have an oil leak fixed with an independent mechanic. Oi leak is fixed. Rode off and couldn't shift anymore. You all were very helpful trying to figure out what the problem could have been.

I ended up buying an engine off of Ebay with 40 miles on it because the mech said that it would take too long and it's too risky to fix a tranny (too many leaks could occur blabla).

Engine came. He called me. Now are you guys sitting? He said it has the same shifting problem. There is no such coincidence. And then he continued telling me that he took the old tranny apart just to find out.....are you guys SITTING? That there is nothing wrong with the old tranny.
Now let me recapture. I have spend over a thousand bucks to replace a perfectly working engine.
I do believe that he thinks that there is a shifting problem but I also believe it is because Nomads seem to shift a little harder than other bikes.
Or do you guys have any knowledge if there is some locking mechanism in the engine that might prevent the shifting?
Any take on the issue?
