Great minds must think alike!
I was just getting ready to say the same thing. :)

Tried sitting right on top of the wire grids in the road. most of the time it works but there are 3 lights I need to avoid after midnight when there is no traffic. I sit for so long I will just go after what should be 3 cycles. Mostly I just try to avoid. Maybe I should go home earlier.

I think the wires in the pavement sense a change in inductance when metal is over them. I just make sure my bike is to the side over the outer circle of the wires where it covers most.

Some wait til a car or truck come behing them to change the light and some just run it, and he says most cops won't pull you over for that reason

I'd love to know where that MSF ridercoach gets off telling students to run a red light and the cops won't pull you over for doing it???

There are a couple of notorius intersections in my area that won't change for a bike. Never used one of these devices. would be interested in hearing how they work.

I remember one incident waiting on a left turn where the light would not change and at the time I was riding with my ex-gf and she was on her Harley. Two bikes didn't trip the sensor! We eventually just rode through it but didn't try the kickstand trick. I've seen the magnet things they sell and have wondered myself if they work or not. By all means let us know....

I didn't even know these exist. It's all new to me. I'd be curious to know if anyone in the Northeast has encountered these gadgets.

Most municipalities have a law for dealing with lights that won't change. Some say "x" number of light cycles, others say 2 or 3 minutes. I believe it's 3 minutes here in AZ. But it has to be safe to proceed.

The Nomad will trigger most of the lights I come across, I can only think of a couple I've sat there a long time until someone came up behind me.

Earlier this year in Peachtree City, Georgia the DOT was widening the major roadway through the city, Hwy 74. During the construction the sensors were removed and all the lights were put on timers. Late at night many of the side streets would stay red anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes!

Here's how the wonderful Peachtree City Police handled the situation; late at night the patrol cars would park near the intersections in question with their lights off and where they couldn't be seen. They would wait for vehicles on the side streets to get tired of waiting and as soon as they proceeded through the light they would stop them and give them a ticket for running the red light. I quess that's how the city raised the money to pay their portion of the costs to widen the road.

A lot of people really raised Hell but the Mayor just told them, "Don't run the light."

Scumbags, all of them. (Politicians)

P.S. No, I didn't get caught. After reading about what was happening I avoided the area at all costs.

Unbelievable. That is bordering on entrapment. Oh, but I'm sure the city attorney has determined it's all real legal-like and given the city his blessing. Scoundrels!

Here's a video on the subject. When the commercial starts, just click when it says to watch the video.

The MSF instructor was retired from the Motorcyle division of the police force. He was the head motorcyle officer.

Did I just waste $13.95?

I asked a friend about this device that he bought about 2 years ago. Here's his reply:

"It works *most* of the time. There is a more expensive one that I'm going to try sometime - assuming one gets that for which one pays.

I have encountered lights where the thing just doesn't work and also some where it's hit-and-miss, but mostly it works pretty well."

After I seen what the red light trigger was I made on out of magnets I had laying around. I have only had a couple of lights that still would not work with it on the bike. At one light we had 4 bikes on the grid and it still would not change.

http://www.magnet4less.com/product_i...roducts_id=647

These are relatively expensive but super powerful.

If you look thru this page, there are a variety of
shapes and magnetic pulls.

http://www.magnet4less.com/index.php?cPath=1_5

The magnets in the video had only a pull of 6 lbs. Some
of these go up to 90 lbs or more!!
