I've went through 4 sets of metz and never had a noise problem.
The Bridgestones when worn were very noisy, and the Dunlap 404's were just crap. My only complaint with the Metzler is the radial rear wears out as fast as the Bridgestone Bias Ply. Which is around 6500mi. and thats tread wear down to 2/32. Now I know many have posted some high mi. results with the tires I've just mentioned, but either they ride them to the cord or their
smokin silly weed. I've known 3 other guy's with Nomad's that share the same experience as me. I think either the Avon or Dunlap Elite 3 in bias ply is probably going to be the longest wearing for the 1600. The Metz 150-80B-16 for the 1500 works well and gave me good mi. on my 02. m2cw

I run the Metzeler ME880 160/80B-16 GL1500 Goldwing tire on the back of my 1500... love it.

I forgot about that size Nico. ::) What kind of mi. do you get?
Thats a bias tire, but a little smaller for the 1600 & a little larger for the 1500. I could use it but it would make my speedo sooooo
far off it would read 70 at 50 probably. I'm going to ck. the size on the chart to see how much diff. it is in size. (dia.)

I ran Avon Venom on my Harley. Best "riding" tire I've ever used. However, mileage was horrible, started cupping at 6,000 miles, finally replaced at 7,500.

The Avon's have a real soft sidewall. If you lost air, not sure it would stay on the rim! Replaced with Metzler, not as good a ride as Avon, but got better mileage.

I just recently installed Metzler 880 radial on rear of 08 Nomad. What a major difference over Bridgestone. Even with the stock stone bias front, corners much better, and overall ride improved. I plan to replace the front with a radial, not sure what brand.

Would like to try the new Metz radial but extremely hard to get. We are limited on choices for 1600 Nomad's.

Nico, if your Metz tires don't "sing" a little in the corners you don't have enough miles on them yet. They're never as bad as the Bridgestones, but they will eventually make some noise.

Ole Dawg, a 160/80/16 is slightly taller than the stock 1600's 170/70/16 tire. In other words you speedo would be more accurate.

Yes, in theory it is about 1/3" taller. In reality it's maybe a bit more or less.

;) Thanks guys, thought I still had that chart that showed all the dimensions, but guess I lost it. I'm with ya though as the 160 is just a little narrower than the 170. The 80 is sidewall hight, . So going to that 160-80B-16 the diameter would be close to the 170-80R-16. Is that right?

I run venom X's on my 1500. 11,000 on my rear, would have went a couple k farther but it got punctured so I put on a new one. Lots of noise in the corners as it wore down, at 10K it sounded like It the diff gears were going out. No noise with the new one yet at 2000. I run 40-42 rear and 36-40 front. at 32 psi in the front the neutral handling goes away in the twisties. As the front pressure gets lower the bike has to be forced into the turns, with 36 or better it just falls into them naturally with very little input. One thing I have noticed though is with the front pressure high traction in the wet seems to suffer slightly. Overall I like them.

Thanks Nico! ;)
Let me know how far that rear goes. Sounds like 10,000 won't be out of the question. :)
