Yes the hitch plate is 1/8" steel, more than strong enough and ridged enough for the job.

Did you have any muffler bolt alignment issues?
It seems that I always have 1 of the 4 bolts never align exactly perfect, on this or any other bike so I don't consider it an issue, just need to push things into alignment and tighten it down.
I recently discovered you can correct hanger bolt alignment. Member "Peg" explained that aftermarket exhaust is soft and can be bent easily. Just stand on the pipe and give the muffler a shove. A tiny bit makes a big difference, especially on the left side.

Stock pipe is stiff, but can be bent too. The left side has a chrome stop ring that keeps the pipe from crushing. Just grab the muffler body and slam the pipe downward onto a wooden bench top like your mad at it. Again-a little is all it takes. Forcing a bolt to line up puts stress on the head pipe and cylinder head studs. I HAVE NO TRAILER HITCH/BOLT ALIGNMENT ISSUES NOW!

Chuckster has a great product and a great price. If you look at the vaquero hitch on his site, it is a 1700. Just shoot him an email through the link on his site. He will get back to you.
