Amp and speaker upgrade

Hi, new to the forum but I have been reading it for a while.
This past summer I installed an Alpine KTP-445U universal power pack amp and a pair of Hertz Hi-Energy 5.25" 2 Way Coaxial Speaker (HCX1304) that can handle 140 watts peak and 70 watts continuous.

This set up sounds amazing and I set the amp as bridged for 90 watts per channel. Very loud if needed and the speakers handle it well.

A quality amp and quality speaker that can handle the power makes all the difference. I first installed Kenwood speakers but they sounded horrible (Their specs do not come close to the Hertz). Try to get speakers which can handle the lowest (Hz) frequency as this is where most of the distortion will be generated. And the highest sensitivity.

My advice is to find a good car stereo shop that knows their stuff. The two I shopped at had both installed these items in bikes in the past so they knew what they were talking about.

Keep in mind that you won't get great bass out of a 5.25" speaker but by adding good equipment will deliver better sound and bass than the stock setup.

How much were these and where did you buy them. I would like to hear them first if possible.I have gone through cheap and expensive speakers thus giving up. Are these water proof as well?

Is that question real of rhetorical? For the same reason they want load pipes to drive other people nuts. They probably think everyone has the same taste in music as they do.

When it intrudes into other's space, it get sticky. There are times I wish I had a hand grenade when some dirtbag in a hoopty car with woofers drives up. It's arrogant, intrusive and shows a lack of respect for other's space. Brad has the right idea, keep it in the helmet, that's a true live and let live attitude.

Heya and welcome! Changing out the stock head unit will lose (or require some modification to keep) the handle bar controls. What most seem to be doing is adding an amp and changing out the speakers. That is what I am currently investigating.

Click on search above and try the key word amplifier or stereo or speakers and you will find a bunch of threads about it. There is also another Vulcan forum that has a couple of good threads on the subject.

After adding my amp, I set my AVC to 3 so its not loud when stopped but builds volume quickly once under way, thus I can hear it clearly at speed, but its at a reasonable volume when stopped.

I added polk DB 501 in my saddle bag and with my pioneer GM 3500 T amp in my tour pack and it sound very nice. The speakers are marine 5.25 inch standard and the amp is not expose to weather environment, Its a 2 channel amp only so the front speakers are only powered up by the JVC deck which I got the set up from Ron's motorcycle for my Memphis shade fairing.

The speakers are 4.25 in the front and hard to believe how much bass i get from that set up. Being an electronic technologist I did the complete install myself and everything is removable if need be without cutting any wires (used RCA jacks)

Vulcanrider how do you like the Thunder BAK. Do you get alot of engine noise, not the sucking sound of an open air kit, the the air hammering valve train noise?

Sounds great, very nice looking ride.

I am pretty sure most of the complainers have a stock exhaust. I have the V&H slip ons. On my 1500 classic, with the Samson exhaust I could not hear any noise of valves or intake over the pipes, so am not sure what everyone hears on the 1700. I am on the fence for the BAK. My "final" lol. mod for my Vaquero. Redjay keeps telling me to ride with the right side cover off to get an idea. I may just do that.
