I'm not the one who suggested I needed a gun to walk in the woods, nor did I dis anybody who likes guns, only stated my preference.

...AND..with the reintroduction of the GRIZZLY to the Rocky Mt Area...They wont just kill you...Wolves and Griz will tear you apart, then poop you out in the woods !
Idaho...are you hunting with Super Cub's ? or any other type of aircraft ?...We used to do a LOT of Predator Control in the Dakota's Wyoming and Western Nebraska form J3's, PA 11's, And Super Cubs..(and a variety of "ultra lights")...our weapon of preference is a 12ga Pump..sawed off to about 20 inches (for easy maneuvering in a cramped cock pit area) fireing 3 in mag / BB shot..or Buck Shot...depending on the terrain...and how close down on them you can fly.. Let me know if your interested in such activities...I'm looking for some flying !\ |

The 25-06 is a excellent cartridge and one of my favorites. I have a Rem 700 chambered in it.

Colorado can be very wide open. Might as well wave good bye if all you have is a short barreled shotgun as you'll never get close. I'd rather have a rifle.

Is 25-o6 ammo readily available? Probably expensive. Of course, with a bolt action one box is liable to last you a couple of years. My hunting is pretty much limited to upland bird these days. Gave up chasing mule deer, Javalina and such.
Haven't been involved with shooting for awhile but just started getting back into it. Dug my old M1 carbine out an put a red dot sight on it. Been having fun at the range with that...and the Ruger SR9c 9mm I recently bought. No wolves around here but coyotes all over. Saw one taking a crap on the sidewalk one night coming home from work. This was inside the city, not out in the burbs! Recently a guy up in Cave Creek heard his dog making a commotion behind his house. He stepped around the side just in time to see a mountain lion leap back over his back fence. Guess it was after the dog but the dog ended up going after him. Read somewhere: "I believe there is a place for all of natures animals...right beside the mashed potatos"

No not a peta member. I hunt I have shotguns, rifles, handguns, and a bow. I just think if you're going to kill it you should eat it. Now if it attacks you then that different story. But just to go out looking to kill something just to do it I guess I can see protecting your property/livelihood. But then again they were here first.

Ammo can be found at most well stocked sporting good stores. Cabela's stocks it but the cartridge is at its finest when it is handloaded to fit the situation. Brass can be obtained by using 270 or 30-06 brass.

Bud,
Not to hijack, but it is your thread and you asked... When I was on the Orofino trip my foot had become infected (cellulitis). By the time I got home it had spread into the bone in my foot (osteomyelitis). I spent 5 days in the hospital and have been on IV antibiotics for the past 6 weeks, just finished the last dose this morning. They inserted a TACC line in my chest to facilitate the IV, which should be removed early next week. I am thrilled about that. Anyway, walking any distance is pretty much out of the question for now, hence no hunting. My foot is slow to heal and they just set me up with a wound vac this afternoon, which draws a vacuum over the wound area and is supposed to speed up the healing process. It's been a long 7 weeks since I returned from the rally. I haven't even been able to clean my bike up from the trip. It's still covered with bugs from Utah, Idaho, Washington and Montana.
