Big difference between a V Max and a Nomad. You do know that a 1600 motor will fit right into a 1500 frame right? Then you have a stroked bottom end to start with. Then you can then you get some cams and heads from an early 1500 MS . Have larger valves put in the heads and have them ported . Then Get the Thunder Mfg 100in. kit. Being carbed doesn't mean it won't run great. You might have to play with the jets and the needle though. On my KZ1000 I have bored my carb venturis from 26mm to 29mm. That made a BIG difference on how much air the bike can take in. Then be sure to upgrade the clutch spring and discs to get all that new power to the ground.

V Max isn't much for long trips though.

Ha... point A to point B - in a hurry...
I have gone through Corbon, UFO, Mustang, etc... seats and inserts since my first one in 85', & for the last 3 yrs., I land straight back on the o.e.m. that a buddy of mine cut down & trimmed and restreached for me. Just gotta watch tryin' to mod anything ya use because of the way the seat flips open for fuel. ( another better idea from G.M. --- I mean Yamaha...)
In the end, it's worth it - in short doses,

The frame mods would be prohibitively major and expensive.

But a 1500 can be modded to keep up with a V2K. It's been done.

Yep, idle control. So you are doing the 100" kit? Cool !, let us all know how it goes. If you can get the meanie engine, be sure to get the ecm and intake too. The MS come with bigger injectors but you need the ecm to make it run right. Plan on some mods to make the fuel line work with the nomad tank.

Don't spend any extra money for a 1600 'meanie' mill over a Classic or Nomad mill.

The 1600 has the same cams in all three engines, and the electrical system is different, as the 'meanie' only has one stator.

The 1500 'meanie' has hotter cams, but an older 'A' engine has the best cams.

Putting the overbore kit in will not get you where you are wanting to be without MAJOR porting and polishing work.

Call me sometime and we'll talk about this.

yes, nomad has in tank pump and regulator. The regulator for a ms is on the inlet on the intake. also the fuel line on a meanie connects in a different spot and faces forward. The fuel line on a nomad faces the rear. I just did a thread on this mod for my 1600. If you are going to spend the cash for the 100" kit, spend the extra for the hotter 1500 ms cams as MAS said ,plus the heads and have larger valves and port work done. She will run like a scalded dog.

So Mas Tequela, are you saying the overbore kit is not worth it... planned on getting the heads ported and polished anyway... is the change from the 1500 to the 1600 mill worth the gain of what..200cc's?? <<using the 100" overbore kit.
