I picked it up an hour away so there was no shipping either.
I talked to Sergei (the fellow that sold Ringadingh his 1600) and almost went for the 1500 motor he had, but decided on a low mileage 1600 from eBay instead. After the shipping and brokerage charges, I wish I'd gone with Sergei.

Oh well - I may be back in touch for pointers next spring when I install the 1600 (particularly since I'm putting it in a carb'd 1999).

Sergei still has the 1500 Nomad motor for sale, and a low mileage 1500 Mean Streak - if you're interested, message me and I'll forward his contact info.

Success! I fired up the new 1600 FI motor in my 1999 carbed 1500 last night for the first time. Runs beautifully. This is huge for me - I'm a drummer/computer geek and I've never done anything mechanical in my life...

Thanks to everyone on this forum for all the great advice, and a sincere thank you to the master of motor replacement, MAS Tequila for all his patient guidance.

I had a buddy suggest that I should ask folks who have done the 1500 to 1600 replacement if they had to re-jet the carb.

Ringadingh or MAS Tequila - any opinions?

How is your 1500 set-up?

Are you going to use the same air cleaner and exhaust?

If the jetting is good for the set-up and you using the same set-up, then the jetting will be good with the new engine.

You will likely have to turn the idle adjuster a bit to achieve the same idle.

Same air cleaner and pipes. The idle seems good as is...I'll go with what is working right now.

As I said in our emails Brent, congrats on the big accomplishment.
Now when you can get around to it, take it for a ride to my place and say hi.

I agree that if you put the same intake and exhaust on the 1600 motor, that you should be very close to where it needs to be. Take a look at the spark plugs after a good run on the highway. If they are colored ok, you should be fine.

Back in the Saddle

First ride with the new motor today - nothing fell off, and no leaks. Runs great, and I have second gear for the first time in a few years.

Thanks again to everyone - MAS Tequila and Ringadingh in particular.

Love this forum!
