Because the battery was too dead to even take a charge. Had he left the cables on for a few minutes that may have been enough to keep it running.

There are lots of bikes available in the states, and its not that difficult to bring one in.
Your only a couple hours from NY or Michigan so it could be done in a couple days in most cases.
When I'm ready for my next bike I'll most likely find one in the states again, you can save a lot of money over buying one here. In my case I'll spend about the same amount I would here, but I'll have a bike at least 2-3 years newer for the same money.

If you want info on importing the bike all the info is at http://www.riv.ca/ The process is simple but can be a bit of a pain in the rear chasing recall clearance letters. I've imported several Motocross race bikes, an RV and an enclosed trailer and never had an issue.

1500 vs 1600

A couple of reasons
The 1500 is a much more reliable and better looking bike.
The worlds fastest bagger is a modified 1500.
1/4 mile in 10.5 seconds and 155 mph!

The only really noticable difference between the 1500 and 1600 is the tank.

What makes you think the 1500 is more reliable?

I'll bet you can make a 1600 go just as fast.

Update ... still looking. Nice one in Detroit Craigslist, the ad has been there for 2 weeks. I get a reply back from the turkey that is selling it and he says it sold the first day at full price, I said "Quit bragging and delete the dang ad"!!

If you're in Ontario, maybe you should look on www.lespac.com. It's a Craig's list look alike in Quebec (and also a little in On and east coast). Of course it's in french, maybe you can switch the page in english. The search engine if far more effective and simple then Craig's list.

Try also www.kijiji.ca. This one is nationwide effective. I found my bike on that website.

Good luck and keep us updated!
