Just install a new Barnett spring and your good to go. I did that with the old plates and the bike I have had 57500 miles on it before the slipping showed up. I put a new Barnett in by itself and the clutch is quite a bit stiffer to pull back but not too bad. I think if I had put the additional washers in it would have been torture to pull the clutch in. There is really no need for additional washers. Just get the new Barnett spring and you will be good to go. If the original spring in my bike went for 57500 miles I expect to get that plus out of the Barnett. I was told this by more then one Vulcan owner to just put the Barnett in and I would be fine so that is what I did and it works great as I was told it would.

When I did mine 1600 2006 the oem spring had no marks of cutting at all. it looked perfect by eye and the paint markings were still on it. Besides wear and tear what kills these is the hot oil bath they live in, which is plenty hot enough to screw up the spring by tempering. So sooner or later all of the spring, no matter who makes them are going to get weaker. That's just a fact of life. IMO the Barnett Spring is the only spring.

no joke about being on the ball, and found out where its shipping from... pretty cool, i was just up in Helena in October visiting family and for a club meeting, the clubs ECV... wish i woulda have been in this forum back then, would have just drove to you and picked them up lol

wow, my bike is SSSOO much better now, judges washers and meanie spring are the way to go, 100%.. thank you guys for the help and the info.. i love the results, better clutch action, my power is there, gas mileage has increased substantially.. did i mention my power is there, cus thats important.. and if i did this right, here is the old spring.. just saying if yours looks ANYTHING like this, please replace it.. there should be NO groove

Hmmm..interesting...several opinions stated. I have 80,000kms on the stock clutch with no slippage. When taking off in first I do need to ride the clutch a bit because it is no a smooth transition. I decided to get the Barnett spring , steel plates and carbon fibre plates too. I've had barney clutches before and they work very well..yes harder to pull in..oh well. I don't need to replace clutch as of yet but will sometime in june before I hit the road for a trip.
