Hey BD, Looks very nice. You took your time to lay out the pattern. So, is there any possibility that this bypasses the filter? And, have you taken your resistor mod out of the equation? I believe that you intalled a toggle switch for that purpose didn't you? You may have stumbled onto the easiest air mod yet.

Yea Idaho, I laid out a patter just with masking tape and figured the size and spacing and started drilling. Though about how much and in actuality you could do the entire circumference. I chose the 8 to 4 oclock position as a compromise and to keep water out.

Pull the cover and you'll see the it is sealed all the way around against the back plate and chrome cover. No possible way to bypass the filter even if you drilled those hole 360 degrees around the entire cover.

I still have the resistor mod and will leave it in until the summer hot months to see how I'm doing. No toggle switch.

Just drilling between 4 oclock and 8 oclock makes a lot of sense. These engines sniff air through a straw and you have probably more than doubled air flow with your mod. I really like the idea.

So, when you laid out the pattern on masking tape can I assume that you used a center punch to mark the holes and then a drill press for accuracy?

Wow, no faith in BD at all.
I think with his title here he just put the tape on, marked it and drilled free hand. ;)

I'm curious as to how this will affect performance. I would like to have a little performance gain and still keep the bike stock.

Got that right TC!! ain't got time to not do it free hand! No punch either. Used a pointed marker and spaced it out and started drilling. I did use a dremel tool to clean up the holes so they look like they were cast in the cover.

BD, do you feel that this will do about the same thing performance-wise as the Caddman mod.?

If you drilled all the way around and your caddman was on the left hand side then I'd say probably.. Remember the air pump theory. Only as much air can come in as going out. Physics...

Come on Idaho, you can do it freehand. It's on the bottom who is gonna see it.
It's not like it's gonna be on nico's bike laying on it's side or anything ;)

Nico don't have a Nomad anymore TC!!!

Idaho, you have the ability and guts my brother! Take your time and if you, by any chance screw up, side covers are cheap on ebay!!! Use 1/4 or 5/16 drill and drill side by side equal spacing. I have 2 rows of 14 holes. TAKE YOU TIME AND DON'T RUSH!.. You can do it!
