On my 07 the rear brake line is next to the oil filter.

Ditto with my '04. It's the brake line, and the rubber sleeve over the line makes it rather fat and it rubs on the oil filter. It's starting to wear out on mine. (Not the line. Just the sleeve over the line.)

BTW, I did pick a tiny piece of plastic baggie out of my screen on the 600 mile oil change. I've done every oil change on this bike, and have always drained through the screen plug. I've done about 12 oil changes so far in 30,000 miles.

I usually find something in that screen. A tiny bit of brass or aluminum: perhaps a thread shaving. A little bit of grit or casting flash, loc-tite or gasket sealant. Nothing ever to be worried about though.

When draining from the screen port I usually start out with a 2X4 under the kickstand. I pull the plug & remove the 2X4. Then I jack under the right front crash bar bolt about 4 or 5 inches, and some more oil drains out. It's only a couple more ounces, if that, but it's worth the effort.

I've changed the filter at every oil change, using the SuperTech filters from Wal-Mart.

+1

I wonder what Kawi is doing in the engine build process that leaves a bit of plastic bag in there, and I wonder if there is a bit that get stuck anywhere in a place that isn't so benign?

I found a lot of bits and pieces in the screen the first oil change. Nothing to speak of since, but I take it out and check it every time. I keep thinking some day I'll find a sparrow or maybe a rodent in there.
