UPDATED: Changing the clutch spring
Mac, update on the neighbour with all the problems ie: overfilling the oil, screwed up O ring gasket, bald rear tire being changed at the last minute etc. - not sure if he got the gear oil changed or not .... has made it from Alberta to Yellowstone and is almost back so the tips have helped and the Nomad is running like a top, so he says. He made a similar trip south of the border on a 80 something borrowed Goldwing last year - no power to hardly make the "hills" / mountains. He is riding his dream machine 06 Nomad with lots of power to keep up this year. FYI Dennis

UPDATED: Changing the clutch spring
Well, took it out for a test ride. Runs fine. But, my front exhaust header is leaking, so I will have to take it loose and reinstall it. But, no oil leaking out, no slipping in the clutch. Overall, I am glad it got done. Thanks to all for the input.
