I think Id avoid the power washer from now on as well, especially around the electrics.

Yes I agree on the power washing. Well I took it for a 3 or 4 mile ride lots of speed changes and gear shifting only up to third of coarse and the only popping now is running along in first about 25 mph. I'll let it cool and take the plugs back out and clean them later.

Take off the right side rear plug wire and peel off the rubber boot on the resistior end the thing that plugs on the spark plug. Look at the brass clip there and all around in there for water dropplets. That side well can fill up with water, and a heated engine will make steam, which will pass thru the seal. Once steam it there it will cool and condence making a water tight seal with the water trapped inside there.
If that one is bad check all the rest. If any are green water has been getting up there a while. Use WD in there to get out any water. Use die-electric grease on the rubber boot after.

I did all the things I could think of and put 120 miles on it put some super premium gas in it and it still popping. It pops when its cold and once it warms up like going down the freeway it does it once in a while. Any other ideals would be great.

I think I would throw some Berrymans B12 or alcohol in my gas. May be some moisture in the fuel.
I had a old Toyota one time. It would do like you describe. I changed everything and nothing worked. Finally a friend told me to put a 8 oz bottle of alcohol in the 12 gallon gas tank. I never heard of that. Put it in anyway and the problem solved immediately. My friend said some vehicles make their own moisture in the tank. Every three to six months, that 1972 whiskey dented Toyota needed a pint of alcohol. |

At the age of your bike and mileage you are prime candidate for fuel pump/press reg/filter assembly problems. 4-6 yrs old and 35-50K miles is where it seems to hit the 1600 FI bikes.
When problem starts the pump works but regulator preceeds filter in flow so if the filter starts to interupt fuel flow to injectors the regulator and pump don't know. Problem ultimately gets reflected back to regulator and it either: 1) jams closed shuts off pump and flow and bike won't run or 2) jams open casing fuel flow problems at injectors (flooding, boging, stahling, poping) and over time taxes pump to point it gets noisy then fails. Pull fuel line off tank, turn ignition on and if fuel doesn't shoot several feet out of spicket your probem is in the assembly. If so I'd pull the unit from tank, separtate pump from regulator/filter assembly, clean the pump's pre-filter sock then back flush the filter/reg assembly. Use 30 psi or less air and fill filter assemble with fuel each time before you hit it with air. If you get a goob of crap or debrie and dirt you just fixed your problem.

If the coils and wires are shot, these would be the first I heard of. Get it figured out, with out droppin dimes all over the place.

Testing it tonight with water to see if they arc. I'll spray a mist on them and hope for the best

No spark problems and still doing it. Now I will start with fuel pump I just dont know how I'm gonna find 30 psi or less

almost all compressors have a adjustable regulator. tank fills to pressure you want to maintain. set it at 30 psi and you are good to go. But first test is pull the gas line and see if it shoots gas across garage or not.
If it does then look over plugs for very rich conditon. If plugs are clean then pump not stuck on and problem is elsewhere. If plugs black then likely regulator stuck open. Remove assembley, then separate pump from filter/regulator. Back flush filter/regulator and if goop is plentiful then good chance you can reassemble and find problem solved. If fuel dribbles then flow is restricted. Remove assembley, then separate pump from filter/regulator. Touch pump wires to battery terminals to see if pump spins smooth and fast. If yes then backflush filter/regulator and if goop is plentiful then good chance you can reassemble and find problem solved.

I changed the plugs and they were pretty black so I will test tonight when I get home. This sounds easy enough I will just have to bring the tank to work so I can use the air here.
