What can one say but hope things get better FAST !!! Right, follow the doc's orders, take your meds and just be cool. All in all, things tend to work out for the best.

Wow, what a story.Get well soon Daryl. One of my brothers lost the sight in one eye when he was 16 in a farm accident and he still rides. He will be 70 years young this year. You will have to change your handle to Audiogooroosster.

I agree with this. I have gotten sleepy while driving and close the right eye (bad I know and I come to my senses and pull over somewhere) and have no difficulty still seeing.

So sorry you're having this difficulty hope it gets better. Someone else also mentioned surgery to shorten an eye muscle. My son had this surgery on his eyes while in the Army...he was amazed at the difference it made in his vision. He did not realize he had this condition and had mentally just compensated for it but an astute ophthalmologist just happened to notice it while talking with him at the Army hospital where he was working in xray.

Also...I would try driving very short distance first or around a large parking lot to make sure there is no chance of dizziness and to adjust to riding with one eye covered up before venturing out very far. Good luck to you.

Sorry to hear.
I was wondering, do they have a medical name for this condition?

I am really sorry to read about your experience. Like everyone els, I too wish you a speedy recovery. HOWEVER, STAY AWAY FROM THE BIKE - IT IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS. i know that some people ride with one good eye but those riders have had the condition for a long time and their body and brain have gotten used to it. They have had time to hone in on their hand to eye coordination and to adjust their lifestyles to the condition. I think 3 to 6 months is too short to develop that level of coordination. IMHO

Audio, hope the condition rights it self and sooner than the Dr.s are predicting.
If you do ride take it easy and be very careful. We need your input around here.

Darryl,

I've had Lasik on one eye (the dominant eye) to correct my distance vision. I still have acuity to read in my other eye, so until age ruins my reading, I have one eye set up for long distance and one for short.

The brain is amazing. It instantly adapts to what I need to see clearly. Sometimes I have to cover up an eye to remember which one I use for which purpose. If given time, your brain would begin to use the image from your dominant eye.

As far as the patch on the bike. Remember that your nose considerably obstructs your peripheral vision. You will still be able to see approaching vehicles, but you will be turning your head a lot more to use both mirrors. You will be more tunnel-visioned in an environment should have 360 vision. It will just take some time for adjusting to your new limitations.

Good luck.
