The list that is visible at log in is just the stuff I am involved in so that works for me. As far as the "new topics" button. Don't use it. I go down through the pages like I always have and look for things to read.

The other thing I just noticed is that "new topics" isn't actually "new" topics. It is just a list of the most recent posts on all threads. There are some really old threads that pop up.

Very accurate observation. They could use a more descriptive tag for those recent posts.

I agree Kris. But I doubt the post in the regional boards can be left out of the "New Topics" link.

They are not. The thread I started this A.M. is included.

You are correct Charlie. What I meant was that I doubt Trip could, even if he wanted to, exclude post made in regional boards from the new topics link. I would think it's all or nothing. :)

Well, I'm new, joined last fall, so not sure how it use to be, but I don't mind this format. When I look at the "new topics" you can just hover the mouse over the topic and you can read the first sentence or two without even clicking on it, and if it is something that pertains to me or if it doesn't interest me, then I don't click on it.

And if something was posted in the Regional, wouldn't it show up in the New Topics? Also, I think it's kind of nice to easily see what thoughts other people have on topics or ideas. Especially all the Canucks on the board!! <smile> I haven't seen so many since I lived in Maine!

And that's kind of why we have the Internet now, isn't it? To make it global so we can easily correspond with people everywhere? If it was more restricted, it would be more like the old BBS's, before the Internet. Like, I enjoy seeing a lot of stuff from Utah rider guy, and CactusJack's humor, and Loafer's comments, or TC.

But, I maybe missing the point because I'm new and not sure how it use to be. If so, apologize for my thoughts.

Kris... I know what you are saying and whole-heartedly agree.

Regionals are for regional-related subjects; which was the reason they were created.

If a subject pertains to the entire KawaNOW family; then someone can post that on one of the other boards relevant to the subject -- but leave the regionals alone and excluded from the "new-topics" section.

Secondly, I would like to see the "lighter-side" posts removed from the "new-topics". On most days they dominate the "new-topics".

Hey... I like the jokes and all -- don't get me wrong, I read a lot of them and laugh a lot; but they do seem to dominate the posts in the new-topics section.

Just my 1-cent...

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment about the "lighter side" posts.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment about the "lighter side" posts.
Remember, They are not really New Topics, they are just the most recent posts. Which is why I don't even use the little button up there. I have the list of stuff I am commenting on and then I wander the areas that interest me.

I didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest....just wondering if there is a better way to keep what we liked about the old format while keeping some other things that make it more convenient. I too am tired of scrolling through 15 joke threads to get to an actual topic when I hit the New Topic button. That stuff is funny, but I would agree it needs it own home.

I have no clue what is possible or not with Proboards....but I can think of a couple ways to tweak this new format to better serve the membership, many of which have been mentioned here....

Nothing that a couple shots of tequila wouldn't cure ;)

I use the new topic a lot. When a new topic is posted it does show up in the new topic. But when an old topic is posted to by someone else it appears as a new topic. I have no problem at all with that. I usually can remember which posts I have read. The reason why there are more jokes that show up as new topics is because there are more new jokes posted than anything else. The best thing to do is to click on each type thread rather than the new topic button and all will be like it once was.

I think a very helpful thing to do, is always have a descriptive Subject line, so a person can tell just by looking at it what the problem / topic is going to be about, and that will determine if the person is going to / want to read the topic or not.

I'm sort of at a loss to see why this is a problem. If you don't like the new topics button, then don't use it. I don't. I never see the jokes and am pretty selective in the off-topics boards.
I generally don't go to the other region boards, but if I am going to be traveling an area, I have been known to ask for advice in those forums.
