Handlebar end cap

What part BD? Jim lost the whole bloomin end which is lefty threads, I saw the threads with no tools so didn't measure but might guess 10mm threads and course at that.

I am not sure enough to say what part you have loose, coming loose?? If it is the end cap unscrew it clean out the glue add more glue and turn it back on lefty to tight.

I am sure it is lefty threads because i ran my fingernail in them.

Handlebar end cap

Ok mac. yea the left side has a gap about 1/8 inch between the end cap and the rubber grip. I'm afraid to turn it as I don't know how it's fastened. Doesn't seem to really want to turn in either direction! I can see a center post about 1/2 inch in diameter connecting the cap to the bar and didn't know if it was just a clued press on arraignment or threaded

BD, this is the parts diagram from Kawasaki. It appears from the picture that the left end of the bar has a threaded portion for the end cap to screw onto. From everything I've heard this is in fact a left hand thread.

It may not be possible to screw the cap either direction without messing up the finish. You may be able to wrap the cap with several layers of electrical tape and then carefully try to turn it with pliers.

Took a closer look at the threads. Reverse and coarse confirmed. If you have a space between the rubber and end cap, and the end cap is not loose maybe it's shrinkage.

Did the rubber move? As mine moves without the end cap on right now? I have to work it back in place every once in awhile.

BD, I wonder if the sun has shrunk the rubber grip. Do nothing untill Jim gets the end part. He can inspect the threaded hole in the end cap and see if the studd on the bar bottoms out.

It might be there is glue in the blind hole on the end cap. For sure there is a glue ball in there.

The best way to get this off is with a few layers of leather and a strap wrench. I assume you know what a strap wrench is, and to remove you turn the fitting to the right/clockwise.

I assume you know that by now too. There are no markings to know these are lefty threads either, and in my past that has caused some issues you can bank on.

old wagons wheel hubs, gun screws, and assorted BS with lefty threads.

Jim yer gonna need a strap wrench too. Seek a 3/8 drive one. It maybe be 5 to 6 inches long as a square steel tube, and the other end will have a nylon loop around 1 inch wide.

These are more common in 1/2 drive for oil filters and with some care could be used as well.

Thanks guys. I just didn't want to grap a strap wrenchand start twisting and braking this plastic cap.

Mac the rubber grip doesn't slip in either direction. I thought it might be shrinkage but this happened in one day's ride. I got home and thought WTF is this? Noticing that there is this "gap" between the plastic chrom cap and the rubber grip.. tried to twist it in either direction and couldn't so not wanting to brake the b@stard I'd thought I'd ask you guys how this plastic piece is attached to the end of the handlebar.

Bob, unfortunately that picture doesn't shoe threads on either the bar end or the cap itself so I can't tell how it's attached together

Well I took a chance and turned that sucker clockwise and the remaining glue let go. It does unscrew from the end of the handlebar. Mac it does seem to be that the rubber grip might have shrunk up some unless the cap is not screwing back on the way on.

BD, Are you certain th end is plastic? I just looked at mine and I can't tell what it is.

I know hard heat and sun can over time shrink rubber parts, like car door seals, etc, and that there is a good bet your swing arm to bevel case rubber boot is dying about now since mine is.

Heat and sun are hard on rubber, and like anything oil based as the oil leaves the part grows smaller.

You could try crushing a viagra and make a paste to put on the rubber!

Might be a need for a leather cover and or a new grip.

I just happen to have a 1/2 in oil filter strap wrench.
