Bye-Bye to the Nomad
Quote:
Utah, you just got a new riding buddy! Billz, If I didn't ride my Nomad like a dual purpose, I'd have to trade if for a KLR type bike. But I'd rather make due with the Nomad in the dirt, than make due with a KLR on the street. Really I "need" about 3-5 bikes, and a KLR would be one of them. But I have to cheat to park one bike where I'm at. And the Nomad wins for my all-around bike. But if I did have a KLR, there is so much more of Colorado dirt roads that I would have seen by now (but I have seen a lot on the Nomad). But on the days that I'd have to do an 800 mile day on the pavement, getting somewhere on the KLR would be a killer. I do my need for change by moving, and buying cars. Perhaps you do it with bikes :) Do let us know what you end up with, and how you like the difference in riding. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Bye-Bye to the Nomad
HAHA. What a great bunch you all are!
I particularly like your comment, 'bamaMan, about the divorce/mid-life crisis. :) :) lol!!! A HD dual-sport- man that'd be livin' large, wouldn't it? heehee Have no fear, there will be another bike, although I might take a rest from it for a few months. The Mrs. has a number of home improvement projects planned that I may need to address. House is only two years old, and needs improvements. Can't figure that out. Well at least it's 'easy' stuff, like repainting vaulted ceilings that are 12 feet in the air. lol I have looked long and hard at Kawasaki's KLR 650, although many complain of it being a heavy beast in the rough stuff. And I guess at 430 lbs, it would be. That seems light after a Nomad! My main issue with it is that it uses an engine that has been largely unchanged since it's inception some 20 years ago. I understand the reasoning for that (cheap) just not sure that's what I want. It really all depends on how quickly I want to break my neck out in the desert, I guess. lol Do I want a heavy bike to fall on me, or do I want to flip over backwards when a 220 lb 60 HP dirtbike gets the best of me? Yamaha makes a fuel-injected 250 (called the WR250R) that seems to be very popular, but wow the ergonomics sure seem cramped. Been on street bikes too long, I guess! I can fully appreciate the need for multiple bikes. Might have to try that someday! The fellow that bought the bike is named Brent; he lives in Ogden. I be keepin' y'all posted, 10-4? Over and out. PS- Scott, maybe I could just ride a mile or so behind you. I'd probably be a little uneasy riding with someone that has knobby tires on their bike, too. ![]() Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Bye-Bye to the Nomad
I've heard good reviews on the Suzuki V-strom for dual-sport? or KTM 990 Adventure if that's the direction you decide to go.
Best Regards....
