You fellers have a safe ride today, and feel free to rub it in a bit by posting some more pics of your gorgeous NW scenery ;)

Motyorcycle riding Shifts Paradigms (remember folks you heard it here first!) Two years ago I hadn't ever considered leaving the Lone Star State. Leave Houston? Hell yes! Leave the state? Hell No. Well, after riding in a few more of our United States over the last two years that is no longer a true statement.
I have three more years to get dear daughter out of high school. After that my options expand quite a bit. I have been "planting subliminal messages" and preparing Mama's mind to accept the reality that we don't "have" to live here on the flat, hot, gulfcoast. On the trip home from Custer the first indication came that that effort was having the desired effect. She actually made the statement that it "would be nice to wake up to a mountain view. . . as long as the winters weren't too cold".
I have been looking for "can't pass up this deal" properties for a retirement place, but after this trip I think the search parameters broadened significantly. After last summer's Central rally in Eureka Springs the scope was "has all four seasons and isn't flat". After Custer and our post-rally vacation, the scenic expectations of the immediate area will definitely be added to the mix. Of course after Sarah goes off to college a career change could allow me to relocate before I retire. Will have to check the job forecast for Process Operators & Occupational Safety & Health folks as the time for baby bird to "fly" draws nearer.

Well Larry, the NW has all four seasons....beautiful summers, tolerable winters....awesome fall colors....and sometimes wet springs, but you could not do any better than here. We have oceans, rivers, mountains and deserts all within one to two hours ride/drive.

You can ride here year around if you bundle up in the winter as it is usually in the 40's. It can get down into the teens and low 20's for short periods, but nothing that would last too long.

Summers are glorious up here...so many good routes to ride, so little time to ride them. Oregon, Montana and Idaho all provide great destination rides for the short two or three day runs from Washington.

Let us know if you ever want to make a run up this way...happy to play tour guide! BTW, sorry I didn't get a chance to chat more with you at Custer....I should have made more of an effort to get around to more people. That sure was fun though !

LW...Food for thought. Washington is like Texas...no state income tax. Here in Vancouver we can travel 5 minutes to Portland to shop in their no sales tax State.

If you can afford 2 places you might consider "snowbirding". Live up here part time and somewhere else the rest of the time. I know people that do that between here and Palm Springs CA...they love it.
