I went from a Chevy to a, well, BMW. Nothing wrong with a Cadillac though. They make nice cars.

Someone said once before, the Nomad is a good bike but not great at any one thing. The HD Ultra, Honda GW, Victory Vision (and a very few others) are great at one thing...long distance touring. The Nomad does that well but it wasn't what it was designed for. Very few buy a Nomad (of any variety) if their goal is to travel the country. On the other hand, very few buy a Gold Wing if their goal is to ride it to bikers nights.

If all you want to do is day trip and the occasional weekend jaunt, the Nomad will very adaquately do the job but the "real" touring bikes are most definitely a "step up" for "real touring". You'll also pay for the "step up" as the Ultra, Gold Wing and Vision are all priced significantly higher than the Nomad (at least the HD/GW are...not quite so much the Vic). They also have a lot more features. Not bashing any bike but it is what it is.

Nothing wrong with sleeping with a skanky maiden. Hell, I ended up marrying one. (I think it was either #1 or #2. I can't remember.)

No thanks, but your statement makes me wonder why you are still riding a Nomad

Financial? Vehicles are more expensive north of the border, especially HD. They have 15 year loans for them. That said, depending on the bike, a HD would be a step up. An Ultra Limited is a better bike than the Voyager in terms of fit, finish, features and style. There are other bikes as well. In the end, ride what you own and have fun.

Hey guys, no need to rip any brand. I loved my Nomad and still do. It gave me nearly 40,000 miles of pleasure and brought me to know and befriend some really swell people. With it being my first bike, I had a really tough time deciding on what was for me. A co-worker who had recently purchased an HD Classic suggested that I take a close look at the Vulcan Nomads. I was sold when I first laid eyes on my red and pewter baby. I learned how to do my own maintenance and enjoyed it. I always wanted a Harley Davidson but didn't invest in one for the first bike. I'm happy that I didn't because it's very likely that I wouldn't have met up with all of you. The thing I like most is I can still attend the rallys no matter what I'm riding. I'm looking forward to our next get together. Ride safely everyone.

Congrats on the new ride. Hope it brings you miles of smiles.

I have the KawaTanker and a BMW LT in the garage. Both are worthy steeds for touring. I like my baby ('99 Nomad) because it is a familiar machine. Tammy likes the BMW because it is a bit more comfortable. Still trying to get used to the seating position and ergonomics of the BMW for long hauls.

I'm not bashing HD. All my riding buddies own HD's. I just can't justify the money for one. I love everything about my Nomad. I've owned it for about 9 months and have put 12,000 iles on her.

HD's are fine bikes! You know we're joking. We look forward to seeing you somewhere in Colorado.

I don't get this analogy. Both are made by Government Motors. No diff as far as I'm concerned.

I wasn't offended Mike. My first comment was just a general statement to prevent hurt feelings. And it wouldn't have been mine. I've seen a few motorcycles that I don't like in all brands but never say anything because I don't own any of them. Those that do own them are proud of them and who am I to criticize what they like. Anyway, stay alert guys and be safe.
