You have to have an actual towing license with all the flashing lights going, for them to let you pull somebody out.
I've actually been stuck in the middle of a 4 lane highway in the snow and friend of mind with his jeep had stop but wasn't hooked up and the officer told him, using the PA system, if you hook it up it will cost you!
Ah, the Canadian towing industry must have a strong lobby. I get it. As long as you are paying a tow truck driver to extricate you, that's okay, but one buddy helping out another isn't.

Either it is a strong "lobby"; or there have been too many idiot's "results" from buddies pulliing buddies out of ditches.

I am not trying to be offensive here... I assume something on the "lobbist" side is working here... you know; money passing from palm to palm... that's what makes governments work around the world

Expect the unexpected

Like Kowboy I only ride after dark when it gets that way before I get to where I'm going. When I do ride at night I slow down when possible. On the interstate or a rural road I get behind a cage and match their speed and use their headlights to help me see further down the road. Very tense driving at night.

No night riding for me unless it's in town or on well lit roads. You can't see a 10' alligator on asphalt until you are on top of him. No getting around a high-side crash running over one of these guys. During warmer months they are all over the place.

Mitch, we get alligators up here in Idaho also. That's what I call cast off semi truck tire treads. They will eat you alive if you hit one.

I don't think we have a law like that here, but once a Toronto cop wouldn't let us pull a guy out, he made him call a tow truck.

I work afternoon shift most of the time and therefore Im coming home in the dark most days. Id say at least a third of my miles on the Nomad are put on at night. I have bright lights to light my way, and usually ride in the RH lane up the highway. I havn't had anything unusual happen so far, but try to pay close attention especially during deer season here.

Ring, if you are riding on a four lane highway you might consider riding in the inside (left) lane at night. If a deer crosses into traffic from the right side you will be farther from the edge of the road and prehaps this will give you a little more time to see the animal and react. (not my idea - it is advice from a retired State Police friend of mine)
