I can do 944 miles in a day, providing I am riding solo/alone and riding the slab. That isn't even the distance of the shortest IronButt.

Hey Gibby, actually hwy 34 from Kearney to Brush, CO is a much nicer ride. It is the route I prefer. It might add 30 to 40 minutes but it definately will not be flat once you get past Holdredge. It is much more rolling country. Less traffic and definately less semi's to deal with.

Have you convinced Kendra that Estes Park is the ideal place to celebrate?

The 34 option is interesting. When I took this trip back in 2010 I actually rode all 2-lane roads until I got to Grand Island, then stopped in Kearney. Day 2 was pretty easy and rode into Boulder about 2:00, so there should still be time to peel off the interstate and still make Estes Park in time for dinner.

One thing that always gets me though, when you cross into CO you still have quite a ways to go!

Maybe not this trip but I'm curious too about cutting through the SE corner of So Dakota - going through the Yankton area. Anybody been there?

Working on that... not quite convinced yet.

And Joel... depending on my back... I may ride it out; but as it is now, I am trailering it.

All kinds of anniversaries going on....we'll be celebrating our 33rd while at the rally. What better way to celebrate your anniversary than with a bunch of friends?! IMHO

If I get my new sidecar in time, this will be the first long trip I will take with it. I will probably stay the first night in Grand Island, NE with family. I've traveled there several times, twice on BnG. I usually travel on U.S. 30 all the way from Carroll, IA to Grand Island.

Then it will be on and off I-80 to North Platte, NE and then to Estes Park, CO. It will be about 695 miles total and a little over 12 hours total riding time from home to Estes Park for me. I'm not too enthused about traveling on I-80 so will probably slow it down and go on old highways and thru towns. Besides, I kinda want to show off my sidecar to the locals!

Nothing is set in stone. I may even leave a day early just for the fun of it and take lots of photos. I been dreaming about this trip for a long time now and will probably change plans a dozen times!

It is 986 miles from my house to Estes Park on the slabs, so I will take the slab the entire way there to make time over two days (arriving on Sunday in Estes).

I would rather get to Estes as fast as possible where the real riding is going to be -- and get-in an extra day of riding while there.

It's like deja vu all over again. If you would like to hook up with Denny, Sally, Cal and I in Lincoln, NE or somewhere near there let me know. I think that would be about half way for you. Coming from the north we won't be on the slab until we get into NE, so it would only be one day of slab riding for us. Getting to Estes Park fast and having an extra day of riding there is my preference also. Maybe we could ride to Mt. Evans on that Monday, highest paved road in the continental U.S.

Is that highest paved road higher than Mt. Mitchell was? That was plenty high for me (Sally).
