Looks like that would replace the entire backrest/handrail assembly. Might have to set up an ebay search for that... Thanks, Jeff

Mine are the stock handle rails with a custom design set up to mount the trunk to. Attached properly to the hand rails it will hold the weight and the pressure/weight of a passenger leaning against it. The handle rail brackets are what holds the passenger backrest. So as long as it is made to mount properly.
I test tried mounting a tour pack to a luggage rack it bounced and vibrated real bad. Defiantly wasn't safe to let my wife lean against it.

I had the same thought last summer, wanted more storage and a better backrest for my wife. After much going back and forth I did get the wompus rack and it was the best choice. I stripped of the factory backrest and luggage rack and it was a easy bolt on.
I picked up a cheap (cost efficient) trunk and it lasted me for the one summer only, it just vibrated itself to death. So I picked up a old used HD trunk and completely rebuilt it over the winter it was my best decision, got it for a song on ebay and then it was just my own sweat equity. Fanni Small.jpg

Yes, also, that big heavy leather luggage pack is too heavy for the luggage rack. They are only rated for 10-15 pounds. I wouldn't want a passenger leaning against a tourpak on a flimsy rack.

I built a wompas style mount out of stainless to mount my Honda Valkyrie tour pack, nice lines, nice lights, great backrest (per the wife) and speakers.

So far I'm pleased with this $224 box I bought on ebay, mounted on a Wompus rack I found on ebay for $60.

I put a tourpak on a wompus. Using flat steel bars with stainless hardware and o-rings to dampen. I didn't think anything could match the stock backrest so I kept it.

Well I did it too . Bought the factory trunk kit from partzilla and mounted it last weekend I am very happy with it . Came with every bolt washer bracket trim etc. Also new tail light wiring harness and harness to the big light that was included on the trunk . No modifications all bolt on plug and play . Looks just like a Voyager minus the Emblem . Oh and Partzilla's price is 400 less than ebay or amazon for the kit !

Nice work. I did something similar years ago on my '06 Nomad. Resurrecting this just to maybe generate some ideas for those looking at this. I'm sure it can be adapted for Vaqueros. http://home.insightbb.com/~kpmh.010/N-TourPak.htm It was a relatively cheap solution and worked great. Old tour packs are easy to find and the great thing about HD is that you can get replacement parts like hinges, locks, etc. for almost any year at most dealers. Anyway just throwing that out there for those who want a DIY project Pete |
