Sorry about the late reply on this, being I live up here in the Shen Valley. Big Meadows is a nice place but if you need something from a store, it's 14 miles of 35 mph on Skyline Drive to get to the hwy to get to a store and then back again. Plus you have to pay to drive on Skyline Drive. Trosco mentioned Radio Astronomy and Seneca Rocks area, but we did that area last year at the Eastern Rally. So I was thinking of more around the Roanoke, VA area. That way those traveling north won't have to travel as far. I have a cousin that lives near Roanoke and I can get with him for some ride ideas into WV and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Heck, that sounds like a good reason to ride down there to visit him. Just tossing this out there too.

2010 Rally
I just wanted to have people start thinking of an area they would like to visit and that would have some good riding areas for everyone to experience. Personally, as long as it is a 4 day deal (arrive Thursday, ride Friday, Saturday, leave Sunday), I will be good with it.
Since I am the assistant ride leader this year and we will be selecting new people for both positions next year, I'm just trying to help out the next guy or gal that is going to take over the position.

29 dreams is a great place to gather. very good service as far as the camp ground goes but would cost all members of kawa 15$ to join for the weekend stay, this would be for the year membership to 29 dreams. great roads and the barber race track with in miles of the camp ground. but on the other hand the Shenandoah valley is a great place as well some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen only been there too fish but seen it by plane and it was beautiful from there. I wish I could have been there for the Helen rally and hope work don't get in the way for the 2010 ... heres hoping.
ride safe. |

I don't know about other members but I am parcial to motels not into the camping to much. Maggie Vally has a lot of good riding and camping or motels. Some of the flat landers, lol might not think riding all the way to Roanoke is good either, let some of them say something on that. I kind of like Helen myself and wouldn't mind going back there. just talking out loud.

This flat lander doesn't mind going to Roanoke as long as I plan a few extra days in for travel.
Camping / motels, we like both.

2010 Rally
Just North of Roanoke into WV are two ski lodges that won't be busy during the summer. Maybe stay there as group? Couple nice caves to explore there? And lots of good riding south of I-64 and north of I-81. Including BlueRidge Parkway. A evening dinner cruise on Smith Mountain Lake is always nice. Someone may want to stay at a cottage on the lake, my sister in law handles several rentals there? Fairystone park is a nice camping point just south of lake and several commercial camping areas by lake.
MaggyValley would be cool but Vulcan riders group doing their reunion there in August this year and I am going as may be other members of KawaNow so might be repetative?

I checked on Canaan Valley and the rates were a bit high for last year's Eastern Region Rally. That's how we ended up in Elkins which turned out to be a great rally central. Just a heads up on the ski lodge thing if Canaan Valley was one you had in mind. I like the Roanoke area idea. I'll have to look at the map to offer any other suggestions. Do we want mountain type riding or flat land riding? That will help determine a location as well.

Ok, I think I will lock this thread and start a poll between Helen and Roanoke areas. How about that?
